Dash for Cash Weekend in Review

The best way to describe the weekend was it was a WILD WEEKEND in London for the inaugural Dash For Cash in the state of Kentucky! Around 100 motorcycle racers braved the weather and traveled into the primitive and known traction powerhouse in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, London Dragway.

With a forecast that called for 80% rain 3 days in a row, we got the 20% every day and had clear racing and temps in the low 80 degree range for the entire weekend. Racers that took the chance were greeted with a sight as they turned off highway 80 to the mountains and steep declines, driving 4 miles back into and through the Daniel Boone National Forest before arriving at the gates. The property, sitting on top of a mountain was built by Craig Boone and family in 1999 and they took every bit of pride in their facility and run a top notch ihra and pro mod program week in and week out. There was nothing different about this event . As promised the excitement was high, the scenery was awesome, and it was race weekend for some good purse money.

Friday we had clear sky’s weather for our all day T&T for just $40 where all ages of racers, including the young guns, were able to get out and learn how to go down the racetrack as many times as needed. On the other hand our veteran racers spent the day dialing in their machines to the new track. Friday evening we hosted our cars vs. bikes gamblers which saw close to a $2000 thousand dollar payout, but not before a car took out the starting line christmas tree late in the 3rd round. The bike community stepped up big time as everyone helped to get the tree repaired and track cleaned up since there was no curfew to worry about; as long as we had a tree we were going racing!!

With only two bikes remaining Ricky Scott and Jesse Moyar and 6 cars in the 1/4 finals it was tough task for the 2 wheelers against local champion racers. The finals that night saw two local car racers take home the prize money, where we finished the evening right around midnight.

Saturday started into the ALL BIKE WEEKEND portion of the event. After qualifying and ET eliminations were through we ended on the track with:

Pro ET Winner: Bruce Damewood
Street ET Winner: Kevin Dennis
Our #1 qualifiers in an extremely tight field of index racing
Street Fighter: R Rowe (6.11)
Super Comp: Jesse Moyer (5.604)
Top Gas: Doug Fisher (5.105)

As the last pair ran down the race track the rain came in and tornado sirens started broadcasting over the radio. What did everyone decide to do? Have a reaction time pit bike challenge in the rain! We ran the pit bike race as long we could until lightning forced us to finish the challenge Sunday, but not before having a great time. The rain didn’t stop everyone from getting Saturday evening kicked off drinking blended whiskey and eating world class barbecue, !!! Mtlistening to music while watching the storm roll off the mountain. The rain stopped about 3am that morning and so did we .

We woke up to sunshine and first on track to start drying at 7 am was our announcer for the weekend Michael Klemmee. We had all of our staff including myself in to get the large amount of water dried, scrapped, and burned off just in time for opening ceremonies at 11am. With a few late arriving racers from another race in Nashville, we welcomed them in and set the final ladder sheet. Then fired up The National Anthem, recorded by Jennifer Emard of Rhythm N Roses, and a fireworks display kicking off finals day!

Pro ET double up: Bruce Damewood
