Top Alcohol Motorcycles 3rd event of the 5 race
series held at the newly resurfaced Auto Club Famoso Raceway at Bakersfield,
Ca. resulted in the most exciting, closest racing and yielded the quickest field
yet.
In the 3rd qualifying session Phil Schmidt on his nitro injected twin broke
in the new surface with a TAMX series e.t. record of 6.669 @ 213.21 mph. 2nd
and 3rd spots were covered with more of the nitro twins by Chicago Joe of Richmond
Ca.with 7.078 and Tony Ruggiero from Fresno at 7.243, series promoter Steve
Rice and his ZX11 turbo came in 4th after an engine failure slowed his qualifying
efforts to 7.385. 5th Darryl Meadows from Sacramento, N2O Suzuki at 7.539, Roy
Sears turbo Suzuki was 6th 8.359, Trey McGee from Los Angeles 8.519 and series
newcomer Eric Von Bailey on his MCC turbo nitrous entry 8.834.

Low qualifier Phil Schmidt 6.669 @ 213.21
Sunday Aug 13, even an early start wasn't enough to keep the temps down, at
11:00am the track temp was up to 123 degrees.
Round 1
Unfortunately after setting the standard for the rest of the racers to follow
Phil Schmidt was unable to make the first round call, giving a single to Eric
Von Bailey.
Darryl Meadows took first round victory with 7.44 @ 164.41 over Steve Rice's
8.22 @ 201.38
Chicago Joe with 7.037 @ 211.56 over Trey McGee's 8.369 @ 155.49
Tony Ruggiero 7.594 @ 186.06 defeated Roy Sears 8.118 @ 136.36
Semi Final
Darryl Meadows with a personal best 7.152 @ 183.48 over Von Bailey 9.027 @ 162.60
Chicago Joe 7.558 @ 203.25 passes Tony Ruggiero 7.682 @ 190.47 at the mph light
for the victory.
This sets up a classic showdown of metric vs. V Twin between Chicago Joe on
his nitro injected Top Fuel Harley against Darryl Meadows on his 2001 Koenig
/ NOS Suzuki 1500
FINAL:
Meadows is at the track for the first time without his mentor Pat Watson and
is having a great weekend learning how to run the program with fewer people,
the subtleties of getting lined up straight and tuning nitrous. At the GO it
was the Suzuki with the advantage over the nitro entry, this brought the spectators
to their feet, 60' the Harley makes a hard move towards the wall but seasoned
rider Chicago Joe on the "Trust Me Racing" entry came for Meadows
with a top end charge and was able to pull out the victory with a cool .08 to
spare.
w - Chicago Joe .090 7.131 @ 199.82
r/u- Darryl Meadows .080 7.221 @ 186.33

Winner: Chicago Joe & "Trust Me Racing" Team
Runner up: Darryl Meadows & Crew
