Erica Edwards Biography
Born January 29, 1993 in La Place, Louisiana, Erica Danielle Edwards life started out as any typical little girl growing up as a little doll under the close supervision of her loving mother. One-day when mom briefly looked away, dad swept her off to a motocross track. Erica was six years old. Understandably nervous at first, but she quickly fell in love with motocross and as she says “motocross became a lifestyle and not just a sport.”
Starting in the mini class aboard a KX 65 Kawasaki and working her way up in cc’s, by the time Erica was twelve she was racing 250’s in the Open Women’s division and also against her male counterparts in the School Boy class. By the age of fifteen (last year) Erica was tossing 450’s over 120’ triples and dominating the women’s classes. Erica also ventured over to the dark side and started racing a ZX-14 Kawasaki at the local drag strip. On her first pass aboard the 14 she laid down a very respectful 10.1 @ 144 mph. That pass down the track was the first time she had thrown a leg over a streetbike. Over the last year she has improved to a best of 9.53 at 146.1 mph.
Erica’s dad, Joey, started talking to her about drag racing when she was fourteen but decided to wait knowing she would need to be sixteen to get her driver’s license. Foregoing riding on the street first, Joey decided to go ahead and buy Erica a ZX-14 as a track bike only to start preparing for the AMA Dragbike series in 2010. Good move dad; seeing that her experience on the dirt was all she needed to start racing at the strip. Besides, the track is ten thousand times safer than the street anyway. The bike is stock now, but the plan will be to debut in the SuperSport class.
Having two extreme sports to compete in, Erica’s only concern is having the time to do both Drag Racing and Motocross equally. It hasn’t caused a problem yet and she loves the fact that she can ride Motocross by day and Drag Race by night and not take time away from either one. Other than that she says she can’t get enough of riding on the back of a bike. “It’s in my blood what can I say?”
In addition to her racing, in 2006 Erica and her dad recognized that the number of female riders and racers was increasing but women were still the minority at the tracks. They put their heads together and realized that they needed to bring the female riders together and decided to start an all female motorcycle group known nationally as the Moto Divaz www.MotoDivaz.com. Today, they have members all across the USA and Hawaii. Remember, she’s only sixteen-years old. Remember this name. At 5’4” tall and 124 lbs, Erica “Supergirl” Edwards has a great long future ahead of her and could potentially be the next NHRA Pro Stock Bike star.

Accomplishments:
My racing history goes back to 2000 but was only documented from 9/9/07. On December 30, 2005 I broke my Femur practicing for a MX Race and I had to give up racing until it healed correctly. I returned to MX racing on September 8, 2007 and defeated Louisiana’s fastest female Motocrosser and from that time forward raced undefeated in the Women’s Rankings for 18 months straight.
I have yet to win a Drag Racing Event but I am putting in plenty of seat-time and practicing for my next event. Lately I’ve been working on my Reaction Time to the Tree and I regularly record RT’s of .004 and .005 and hope to use that in combination with some high 8’s and low 9 second ET’s on my ZX14.
