The PMRA Race Series, presented by Fast By Gast, had a great second race on Saturday, May 19th. The weather was sunny and in the mid-80’s but windy with gusts over 40 mph. For safety reasons, the Hughes Racing Pro Open class and Fast By Gast Top Gas class ran 1/8th mile while the rest of the field ran the 1/4 mile. We saw some great rounds of racing and razor thin margins across all seven competitive classes.
In the Doleshal Racing Equipment Street ET class, Ray “Tonto” Johnson, Jr. from Oklahoma City, OK riding his 95 Kawasaki nabbed the win over Danny Lewis of Knox City, TX on his 2012 Kawasaki. Both riders had been on their game all day. Harry Goebel out of Hamlin, TX on his 2008 Kawasaki takes the best package with his first round win with a .001 reaction time and running a 9.646 on a 9.60 dial. These Street ET racers love to push the tree and it is great fun watching these beautiful factory-powered machines battle for the win.
The MRE Pro ET class was won by defending Pro ET champion Jon Haney out of Wichita KS on his 99 Honda with Virgil Gaither from Ardmore, OK as runner up on his Suzuki. This class brings out world class bracket racers. We welcome delay boxes, slider clutches and wheelie bars and this class features Street ET racers all the way to Top Gas bikes. So come out and bring your deadly consistent machines to the PMRA.
The Wedman Motorsports Super Gas class has been incredibly competitive this year. Fred Johnson from Maize, KS was the #1 Qualifier with a 9.911. Veteran Race #1 winner Jim Miller from Oklahoma City, OK once again was in the final on his 77 Kawasaki. It was an exciting race to watch as Fred Wiser from Moore, OK edged out Jim with a blistering 9.900 lighting up the scoreboards!
Super Street 9.50 sponsored by Ajax Kawasaki, takes factory powered machines to the next level. Glenn Todd from Hayesville, KS was the #1 qualifier with a 9.503 on his 2001 Kawasaki ZX12R. We saw a familiar face in the final. Ray “Tonto” Johnson Jr. edged out Dustin Farley from Cushing, OK to take his second win of the day! Both of these riders had impressive runs leading up to the final.
The Mr. Paint Super Comp class saw race #1 winner Dwayne Gains take the #1 qualifying spot with a 8.911 on his 2007 Kawasaki ZX12. The final saw Tim Howard from Oklahoma City, OK riding his Hayabusa against Randy Hughes from Arlington, TX on his 2004 Suzuki GSXR. Tim Howard took the win and was grinning from ear to ear in the winner’s circle.
Top Gas, sponsored by Fast By Gast, ran a 5.20 1/8 mile index due to the high winds. Mitch Brown out of Wichita, KS took the #1 Qualifying spot with a 5.203. Top Gas saw the return of “King” Bill Baxter former Super Street Champion as he debuted his brand new ZX14 Kawasaki. We saw a lot of Bill (some fellow Top Gas competitors would say they saw too much of him)! After listening to him complain all day about how lost he was on the tune up, he marched his way through a stout field to the final. Bill met up with Rob Bennett from Lucas, TX on his GS powered Suzuki but the Kawasaki reigned supreme and Bill took the win.
Pro Open, sponsored by Hughes racing, saw Mark Rendeluk from Oklahoma City, OK advance his points lead as he overtook Jay Doleshal from Bonnersprings, KS in the final. This class also ran 1/8 mile due to the high winds.
The next race in the PMRA series is June 16th. Gates open at 1:00 p.m. and Qualifying will start at 2:00 p.m. See you there!!!
