Paint The 1/4 Pink Charity Race For Breast Cancer
“Paint The ¼ Pink” is a charity all female motorcycle drag race to raise money for “The Breast Cancer Research Foundation” that will be held July 21-22 at the MIROCK Bike Fest.
In July of 2011 the race track temperature was over 100º, ten women dressed from head to toe in their race leathers competed in the first Paint the ¼ Pink Event with nothing to gain from it other than the satisfaction of supporting an event for Breast Cancer Awareness. Some of the ladies selflessness was evident; they came from near and as far as Florida, and Atlanta just to show their support! Whitney Grant was crowned the 1st Queen of the ¼ Pink that stifling day in July. Fast forward to January 2012 after numerous contacts via telephone and e-mail the ¼ Mile will be painted Pink once again. On July 21st-22nd, 2012 some of the fastest females in Drag Racing will be competing in the 2nd annual Paint the ¼ mile Pink event to be held at the MIROCK Bike Fest in Budds Creek, MD
With this years’ event we would like to take time to get to know the extraordinary women that will be competing. Each week we will highlight a different lady and provide a brief insight into the individuals past, present, and future goals.
This week we feature : Dystany Spurlock
I’m currently 19 years old. I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. I am a very outgoing, spontaneous, fun, energetic, loud, bubbly, full of smiles and exciting person. I have a younger sister she is a little minnie me. My favorite color is Hot Pink. My favorite food is Boneless Buffalo wings they are so yummy. I love trying new things no matter how hard or difficult they may seem. I have been drag racing motorcycles for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it. I never thought to myself when i was younger that I would be racing motorcycles at this point in my life, but I guess thats the spontaneous side of me. When I was younger my mother had me into everything just to name a few I was in tap & ballet, Ballroom Dancing, Competition Cheering, karate, boxing, any type of sport you can think of I did it. I’ve always been a competitive person. I remember being in P.E. in elementary school doing relays and thinking to myself I have to win I have to get that trophy. Now i think to myself, why at 8 years old was I thinking about a trophy, lol it was suppose to just be fun. But over all I’m a fun and loving person that enjoys life!
Future ambitions : My future ambitions are endless. There isn’t one thing in particular that I only want to do. Not to sound like I'm super women or anything but I want to do it all I feel that if you put your mind to something there should be no reason that you can’t do it. Drag racing is only the beginning. I would love to expand my dream of being a Victoria Secret Runway and Print Model. As well as race indy cars, becoming an actress in films, a stuntwoman, the list is endless. My determination, drive and dedication or as I like to call them my 3 D’s are out of this world I give my all in whatever it is that I'm doing. I’m so thankful to be able to pave the way for young girls to be able to see me and say that they can do it to.
Gear : I wear Speed & Strength riding apparel and I race a 2010 BMW s1000RR.
Goals for this season : I would love to get the opportunity to be able to run in Pro Street or Real Street as well as bring home the championship in one of the classes that I currently run in which are Crazy 8s, 5.60, and Pro ET/Top Sportsman. I am still working on being able to race in NHRA Pro Stock which is my all time dream... all I can say if the opportunity is granted no one will be let down.
Why are you part of this event : My aunt Mary is a survivor of Breast Cancer, she is one strong individual so any chance that I get to help, I do. I am a huge supporter of Brest Cancer Awareness and my passion is Drag racing motorcycles! So why not do an event that combines the two! Nothing feels better than to give back.
