Brock Davidson of Brock’s Performance Products unveiled his new American Suzuki-backed team at the AMA/Prostar MRE Sunshine Nationals from Gainesville, FL, March 5th-6th, where Davidson saw a lot of potential in his new operation.
“Vending genuine OEM Suzuki parts at the track turned out to be a huge success,” Davidson said. “The racers took to that like I had never imagined. We were sold out by Saturday, so we have tripled our order for the next race because demand is so high. Of course the big ticket item is clutches.”
Davidson admits that the racing department of his team could have used a couple more weeks to prepare.
“We weren’t ready,” Davidson said. “The deal with Suzuki came together so late that we didn’t have enough time to get the bikes here and make them competitive for the first race. In fact, our 600 didn’t show up in Ohio until we were already testing down in Florida.”
Davidson wanted his rider Dustin Clark to keep pace in the points standings, so he borrowed a 2001 GSXR 600 from a couple of gracious associates.
“I really have to thank Dave Owen, Jeff Johnson and Taylor Hole,” Davidson said. “If Taylor hadn’t been so kind to loan us the bike we wouldn’t have even had an entry.”
The team opted to not compete in the 1000 Super Sport category for the first non points paying race, but will enter the class for all of the remaining races.
“The bike wasn’t ready, and this wasn’t a points bearing event, so we figured it would be more advantageous for us to sit out and concentrate on developing the bike,” Davidson said.
In the 600 Super Sport class Clark was defeated in round one by Davidson’s customer Vince Woska Jr.
“We have a lot of effort and work into Vince’s motorcycle,” Davidson said. “It was great to see him do so well.”
Woska went on to win the race, handing Suzuki its first 600 Super Sport event win since 1997.
“He did a great job,” Davidson said. “He did his job on the tree in the final. We’ve put a lot of time into Vince’s bike in the past, but as of late, he has been the reason for the better performances. Everything about his riding has improved.”
Next up for the Suzuki/Brock’s Performance Products team will be the AMA/Prostar MTC Elmer Trett Nationals from Atlanta, GA, April 3rd-4th.
“We’ve got our new 2004 GSXR 600, so we are looking forward to the next race,” Davidson said. “We feel like this bike will be competitive right from the start.”
Davidson expressed gratitude towards his sponsors and thanked; American Suzuki Motor Corp., Ohlins shocks, World Wide Bearings, Bates, and Dean Shields American Made Cycles in Dayton Ohio.
Davidson owns and operates Brock’s Performance Products which specialized in a vast array of performance products for sport bikes, for racing and street applications.
