Crystal Dickerson Wins 2nd Annual Paint the 1/4 Mile Pink

D-Tech Racing headed to Maryland International Raceway for the Mirock Superbike Series XDL FBG/WPGC “Bike Fest” and the 2nd Annual Paint the ¼ mile Pink on July 20th 2012.

With 17 ladies patiently waiting to paint the 1/4 mile pink the weekend did not start out very well, with a complete rain out on Saturday. With clouds at the start of Sunday morning and with all the ladies at the track by 9 a.m they were all ready to go!

Blair Dickerson and Crystal Dickerson were both in the Crazy 8’s class, which Blair is in the #5 spot and Crystal is #13 spot in points. They both went out 2nd round, however that proved to be a blessing for Crystal. Her “Crew Chief “Blair was able to dedicate all his focus to her which indeed payed off as Crystal won the event.

Crystal arrived at the track on Friday, with her mind not really in the game which was due to some personal things going on in her life. With the help of her friends, her dad especially and her sponsors she was able to quickly turn that around. She made her first test run and didn’t leave very well and only went a 9.20 ET but she went back out there and went an 8.79 ET proving she could put her personal issues to the side and do what she needed to do to bring home yet another win for the team.

Qualifying round for the pinks ladder was a cash payout for #1 qualifier in the slider clutch category and also in the hand clutch category. Crystal felt she had a good shot at winning the number 1 qualifier in the hand clutch category. However Michelle Bowman had the better qualifying time of an 8.690 and the crew chief retuned the bike for the qualifying session. Crystal was able to lay down an 8.696. Michelle was awarded the #1 qualifier.

Round 1 Crystal had Dystany Spurlock. Crystal dialed an 8.79 and Dystany dialed a 9.10. Crystal’s bike had a miss shift in 4th gear at this time she was not able to run her dial in but she had a little luck on her side when Dystany Spurlock ran under her posted E/T of a 9.08. Crystal said “If Dystany had a better reaction time she would have won that race. My .007 to her .332 reaction time saved me! If Dystany would have shut down I would have nipped her at the finish line! Good Race!”

Round 2 Crystal had the bye run due to her first round win with a reaction time of .007 and went an 8.83 at 154.32 mph. Crystal was awarded “Best Reaction Time” prize for that round.

Round 3 Crystal had veteran racer Joanna White. Crystal’s crew chief had noticed that Joanna was a very consistent rider. Crystal had the better reaction time in this round with a .067 and ran a 9.19. Crystal was able to have an early shut down run.

Round 4 Crystal drew another veteran racer Mariel Osner-Serrano who dialed in at 9.40 and wheeled the bike causing her E/T to be 9.66. That allowed Crystal who dialed in at 8.83 to scoot under Mariel and go for the win with an E/T of 9.06 on a shut down.

ROUND 5 The final round Crystal had gone through 4 tough rounds with some great female racers. It came down to her final run with Kelly Clontz a former MIROCK track champion. Crystal’s crew chief stated “This will be your toughest round of eliminations.”

POST TIME: Kelly and Crystal both wanted the left lane. So being the sportsman that they are, they flipped for the lane. Kelly won the toss giving her lane choice. She chose the left lane. Crystal dialed in at an 8.83, Kelly dialing in at a 7.96. Crystal received the win light with an 8.84. Kelly’s pass was a 7.98. Crystal stated “I noticed that Kelly stayed in the left lane. Even though Kelly is one of my good friends, I tried to take her out of her comfort zone. I knew I had to be on my game, before the race was over I could hear Kelly off to the left side of my bike and I knew she was coming. I had no room to make any mistakes at all. I said to myself I hope I don’t break out because I was not shutting down lol” Whew!!!! What a race.
