Question on "Switched 12 Volts"

On the instructions for a Dyna 2-step and a MPS quick shifter if states to hook it to a switched 12 volt power source, not directly to the battery. Can I just wire an on off switch directly to the battery, then wire the quick shifter and 2-step to the switch
