Hi, just a little about me, I just got an R1 not long ago, and have fun carving corners, but lately i've been thinking i need something that i can bar hop with and also run straightlines with more comfortably (wheel base is rediculously short on my bike, scares the crap outta me in first gear). so i'm wanting to get an older gsx 1100 and start building it up. i have alot of questions though, and i don't really knwo where to start. i'm hopping all my new friends herewill hook me up. do you know of any how-to type pages i originally got interested in this website because they had an article where they were taking an 1100 and puttin a long arm on it etc etc and making it into a drag bike, but i never saw them get all hardcore. i've built a few engines, but never a bike engine. is there anytypes of books you all have read that helps with this or websites I'm kinda wanting something i can piece together and be real original, look good, and still run 9s. ok.... well nice meeting you all, i hope you are nice and offer me some advice.

Hey TRYIN
You may be able to go back in the archives of Dragbike.com and find some info or hang out some at your local track, most racers will help you out and you can see the bikes close up. Try posting some of your questions in the GSXR forum here and go to web forums like Gsxr forum . com etc. And much to your benefit there is a million parts around for GSXRS they would be a good buildup bike. I may know of someone that wants to sell one 1100 it has a six over arm ,airshifter , Dyna ign, shift light , stock motor I could ask him if you would like. Think it does 10.30s in 1/4
What year R1 is your bike You could do some things to and/with that to make it not so scary. Is that your picture in the avatar
Have fun good luck
P.S. please be careful doing the bar hop thingEdited by: Rob Clay
right on, rob. r1, the best advice comes from racers/riders, just ask. as for books, etc, a haynes or clymer manual is money well spent. i've built 1500 cc gs motors and 1370 cc gsxr's using the specs right out of the book.
all i can say is jump in w/ both feet. find an older 750/1100 and go from there. make a list and change the bike incrementally. maybe lowered and ext. swingarm, then wheels/tires. next, air shifter and upgraded ignition. once you've got the platform established, dive into the motor and tranny. or find a lightweight 750 to modifythen drop in an 1127 motor.
hey guys thanks for the advice. no that's not me, i ahve a Red R1, dragged it a few times so far on an open highway near here with an adapted g-force timer from a buddies camaro.
by "bar hop" i don't mean drink and ride, so just to put you at easy. i mean to cruise around on type thing, and i'm not quite sure what i'm going to do asthetically yet to fulfill this.
maybe i'll have to go out some fri night and get some advice then. thanks guys.
If you build one, I would think you should go big bore as once you start liking it you will always want more. Imho
Hope you have a good go at it. Glad you dont drink and ride, Take care
