That's a killer one of Russ Collins' "SORCERER". That's the one that held the MPH record for so long. 199.5 mph (12yrs). They featured that bike in Cycle World back in 1976 I do believe. I looked at that magazine for so long that I damn near pulledthat bike off the page.

Although I never met some of the guys that I'm going to mention in person, I saw pics of them and heard of them while listening to my dad and his friends bench racing. Names Like Pete Hill, Joe Thronson, Bonnie Truett and Joe Smith.

At Bakersfield in 1971 Joe Smith thundered to a new record of 8.96 at 167.28mph on this nitro burning 1800cc Harley Davidson 'Shovelhead'. Using S & S crank,Burkhardt barrels, Venolia pistons, Leinweber cam and S & S carb. Ignition by Joe Hunt magneto and the modified HD gearbox used top gear only.
Joe Smith built the chrome-moly 70" wheelbase frame himself and rear tyre was a 4.00X18 M & H. it's interesting to see that Smith used lead weights attached to the forks to help keep the front end down, in those pre-wheelie bar days.

Pete Hill came to AUSTRALIA some years ago on that blown Knuckleheaded beast it was the wildest sounding bike, GREIG no photos of Daves bike but i gotta say it is one of the wildest bikes ive ever seen go down the race trackand he reminds me of the dirt bike days on the back wheel ,bars crossed up ,and hangin off the side steering ,( but ive never done it at that speed )matter of fact reminds of my old MACH 111 days too,

The late and great Elmer Trett whips his Kawaki to a low 7.0-second pass at the 1984 U.S. Nationals.
Terry Vance straddles the Vance & Hines Suzuki en route to a 7.02/197 at the U.S. Nationals. Vance pretty much abandoned the fuel bikes by 1985 and played a lead role in the formation and development of the Pro Stock Bike class.
