I am building a GS drag motor. I want to build a motor with higher compresionsay 13:1. My question, has any one use a higher torque starter and a ignitions kill Use the starter to turn the motor over and then turning a switch to fire the ignition once the motor start's to turn over
Thanks,
Jeremy
mine is like that and it still kills the starter clutch at times...you need a ignition with start retard, like a schnitz PS2 or dyna 2000 in order to get a big motor to start reliably without kicking back at times. mines 1500cc button start.
Yeap, If I got to much base timing it will turn over slowly at 13-1. ThenI just hit my kill switch and then reach under my left side coverand push on my topless startersoleniod andflip the kill switch off and she's fires right up. If I just run stock timing then I just leave the kill switch off and just push on the soleniod to start.
When I say push button start I really mean it

If you wwant to run the advancer locked, you need a start retard.
Mines 1428 cc high compression and with a start retard it starts fine.
You can use a stock type advancer to keep the timing retarded til the bike starts.
I know a guy with a kaw 1394 with 13-1 button start with a setup like that.
