One of the Banana's ran a 4.76 / 175 +/- on the 1/8th mile. I know this because I was on it at the time. That bikeheld the 1/8th mile record for quite some time (A Romine Record, not mine).
I loved the Overkill because you could beat on it for a long time before anything broke.
I held a Canadian Record for about an hour back in '96 on a carbureted Sportster - ran a 8.10 at about 160. Gartman broke that record about a half hour later. Oh the competion fierce in those days!
we launch last season Primless (with out primary) highgear bike.
we ran first 1/8 full throttle 4.37/191 Back up to speed next pass 4.42/186,5 click off 4.0s.
Best 1/4 is 6.702/ 196.55 (click off 5.1 s 1000ft speed 219 mph)
60 ft very bads 1.19-1.24 we have engine problem at the starting line.
With primary 2005 bike running 1/8 4.46/169

hey salakazi,
sweet, what a work of art you created.must be agreat Sunday ride. does FIM rules still limit blown bikes to 120 inchesthanks for all the help on my blower project a couple years ago. most fun i ever had in public. Clyde Rawlings bought the blown up remains 6-05 (my family responsibilities took precedence for the last 2 yeas rs) and may get it back on the track before he turns 100. that bike did a .99 sixty footer one try, went 60 to 160 in 1.8 sec another time but at 82 inch wheel base, 650 poundsand high gear only, i never got a full pass before advice from a car guy resulted in disassembling the motor with prejudice in the pits. blew me off my feet, blew out two eardrums, mine and a bystanders, shrapnel went thru' a guys hand, the canopy, my cell phone, a2.3 inch intake valve went out the port, grazed my starters face and landed a hundred yards away. PRP motors are strong, but nitro is stronger.
Kris.s high gear carb fuel sporty was a 103 inch on stock cases, 5 stroke by 3-5/8 bore her 8.10 at 168 was fastest pass on that engine combo. that bike took out cases like Elvis dating starlets. 86 - 90 style evo sporty 4 speed cast harleycases, we have 2 or 3 as counter art in the shop. she dropped 2 at over 160, one in Palmdale Ca.was captured on a ezrider video. ET Rockefeller said he was ducking parts thru the traps. we never did find pistons or barrel pieces larger than a nickel.
i lengthened the frame, dropped in a evo big twin 120 inch cast case motor, basic s&s motor out of the catalog, injected it,and she went 7.40 at186 before we sold the bike to buy the banana. We nevergot that performance out of the banana, but oh well. fruit and nuts didn't mix that time,
Nitrogasm 1 my 114 shovel on a Harmon street chopper frame with an 8 inch rear went 9.2 at 160~165 like a bracket bike and after Ron Fringer suggested i lengthen the frame 16 inches from 62 to 80, and put in a 10 inch tire, it ran 8.2 at 160~165 for a few years. The limit was always gear ratio and the 3x35 sporty primary chain drive. and rods, and cases and nerve. I injected it and never went faster before selling it to Sturgis K&S in Nagoya Japan. They take it out to American Daze and run it on the straightaway at Suzuka once a year, dancing like maniacs if it just starts.
BY THE WAY, and zoar will correct me ifI'm wrong, but Bonnie Truitt ran the first known set of wheelie bars in history. The nitro shovel back in this thread a bit, that Nitroshovel now owns, ran high 8's or low 9's without bars in the 70's. I ran against it ridden by the original owners son at Bakersfield in about 1989 or 90.
for late 80's early 90's historyfind a copy of the VHS tape "the awesome factor" made by the AMRA circa 1989-90 and watch the ezriders tapes made in 1995~96. there is alsoan episode of Speed World on Sturgis in 96 or 97 has the best racing of the PRE CNC and BilletERA.
[b]When fuelHarley's started costing more than than street harleys, that was the demarcation from the early to the mid revolution in my opinion. before that, if you didn't sell your first sporty to buy your first big twin.......a fuel carb and a 4 inch M&H slick mounted on a stock drum sporty rear, weld the mineshaft to the clutch gear, and steal a helmetoff a honda at the grocery story, and you were going racing in the9's at 130~140 smoking the tire t
far as I knew Bonnie took alot of heat for running bars , people couldnt comprehend the need , but they didnt know Bonnie LoL
yeh, 62 inch wheelbase, 225 hp in a fuel sporty, 4 inch m&h slick on a stock drum brake rear rim. if the tire hooked up at 1000 feet the bike flipped like a flap jack. thats the area the bars started to make a difference , not on the line...

That’s probably due to the slider clutch, if you had a hand activated slider you would get plenty of “react”.Originally Posted by jackinzoar

I think first time we really can controlly fuel and clutch.....
