Found a 88 J head without cams. I plan on converting itfor use on my GS next year.

Does anybody know what size cams came on J head. I hear stocks where pretty good but since I don't have them maybe I'll try a different grind

Also what was the rpm range for the 750 I shift at 9800...wondering if i need to change things.

Thanks for any info.Edited by: Racingjake

dont remember the cams specs off hand, but i would go with an aftermarket cam to get some lift for a drag application, like a .380 if you dont want to change/mod the valveguides. 9800rpm is way to low on a GS race engine IMO, i run my GS to 11500. as for the stock 88 GSXR 750, i beleive redline was around 12500on them stock, i know they had a higher redline than the 1100 GSXR's did by 500 or 1000 rpm.

380's sound good and just a bolt in

I'm using 82mm pistons on a 83 crank and don't know what the max should be for long life, 12.5 might be alittle high for me but11K might be doable.

    Thanks

is the crank welded, balanced, and straight cut your using

your shift point will be determined by your ignition timing, compression, cam choice, and settings of cam timing to gain best ET, theres no hard and fast number, your engine combo will determine the proper point needed.

It has factory welded crankonly along the centerline at 4 points and alsousing the modified suzuki basket with oem ring gear. Runs good at 10-1 compression so this head should bump it up over 11-1.

Did try lower cams numbers but it just made the bike harder to start, the starter didn't like it to much. Bike was faster at110-111 degrees. Make's me want to try bigger numbers like113-115 just to see what happens. Got my timing at 36-37 degrees and usingpump gas.

Wish there was a dyno in this town so in the mean time just waiting for the track to open in Feb. Gotta like test and tune days.

Why do you want to go to all the trouble to put that Gixxer head onit when a stock 1150 head is good enough to run 5.40's- 5.50's (no Nitrous)

Thats whats on mine. 28.5 and 24's

Hell I got drop in's and mikunis....

I like a challenge and wanted to see what all the hipe waswith these heads.

I think you have more than just a stock head in your favor

I really can't compare my bike to your's, no light weight wheels, swingarm, slider, raked, front end.I guess i haveclose to200 pounds more total weight combine with me on it.

Plus you have a great looking paint job to boot

Will see in a few month how she run's. Every year I'm getting faster and faster

I thinkI still hold the record for the number of runs around here, must be more than 1000 by now. Edited by: Racingjake

Hey Jake! The stock 88/89 750 cams were .350 lift. Moving the cams up will work but be SURE to check piston to valve clearance! If you shift it around 10500 it should live a LONG time! Just use good oil & change it OFTEN! Also, be sure to put in the GS 750 oil pump gears! If you have to do a valve job be sure to put 30/26s in it. It's cheap & a BIG gain in power & torque! Make sure you use good valve springs too. Good luck! Ray. Edited by: suzukiray
