GOT a "Q"....ON my turbo bike..1428cc kawi KZ with an f40/draw thru with a shorty E...it runs great...fresh rebuild fresh turbo etc...HOWEVER when I start it up FIRST THING...O..M..G!!!! SMOKE'S like it's got a blown turbo....fouls the plugs a bit...after a couple minutes it cleans out and runs fine....WHAT's up with that

Any chance the oil feed is draining oil into turbo after the engine is shut off, and when you start it it has a bunch of oil pooled in turbo to burn off
It fouling plugs means it pulling oil in from the bearing housing (compressor side), not sealing until oil pressure/temp. comes up. Does the Rajay not have an O ring between the bearing housing and compressor housing In any case, I'd say the problem is a leak between the turbocharger bearing housing and the compressor housing. How long ago was the turbocharger rebuilt and by who
It was rebuilt last fall by Mr Turbo......
Have a similar problem on my all new Turbonetics T3/T4. Oil is leaking into the turnine housing just after startup and even leaking somewhat between bearing and turbine housing. I can see oil dripping behind the turbine wheel down into the housing when I start it from cold, shut it off in about 30sand remove the exhaust.
It is just smoking bad from about 20s after startup till the engine is warm. Hardly any smoke on a warm engine. Could it be the AN-08 oil return line just isn't large enough for the cold oil It's about 10 - 11mm diameter inside but the fittings are only ΓΈ9mm inside. The sloping line to the right hand side of the engine doesn't help either.
Yes it's got a carbon seal. Plugs shiny clean.
RE checked the torque on the band...10-12 inch lbs...MUCH better now at 19-20 in lbs.....but still puking a bit...will this go away...or is a new seal in need

Hi Guys,
I have a Rajay turbo on my 1260cc GSX and it is pumping oil out once started from cold! It peppers the side of the garage wall with globules of oil after about 20 seconds (the time I think it takes for the bearing housing to fill with oil) and then I obviously switch it off. I had put this down to excessive oil pressure, but the GSX is a fairly low oil pressure engine. So far I have replaced the sealing ring on the turbine side, the carbon seal assembly on the compressor side, and then, in desperation, replaced the bearing housing - all to no avail. I have stripped the engine and re-assembled - everything is fine; I fitted some carbs and it runs fine, no smoke at all. It is definately the turbo.
What is this "torque on the band" you mention Brent
I've missed three drag events so far this season trying to sort this out...
Any ideas

The torque on the band that surrounds the turbo halves....mine was at like 10in lbs...took it up to 20 in lbs...
Are you positive there is NO restriction in the oil return line NO carbon blocking the return line in the turbocharger its self NO calapsed areas in the return line
The return line is perfect...VERY anal about that one...LARGE line...ALL down hill w/NO restrictions...I may pull the turbo off tomorrow as I have a "spare" that I can take parts off of...my NOS jet goes into the output side of this turbo so I'd have to swap some parts..Have to check in the turbo it's self..
