...... Is there anyone in the group, that runs or have ran FJ's???
Yup. In the past tense.
....... Hey sdwarf36, You say you ran a FJ in the past, Can you talk about it a little, good or bad. Any pic's??
Jeff
I run a Puma FJ in my bike.....![]()
I bet your Puma has a main bearing right about where this crank broke.![]()
..... Not good, Did it come apart at the track?? Have you ever heard of Hank Scott?? Did you get good HP out of the FJ??
I used to drag a FJ-small tire with bar-did a best of 8.85 @150.
This motor was blown up while racing a dwarf car. I actuall drove it back to the trailer like this! When i tore it apart, as soon as I pulled the cyllinders off the studs, the motr felll in two! The head studs were the only thing keeping the pieces together.
When Legends cars came out, I thought for sure I could line up all kinds of work building motors-I had been racing them for years. I quoted many out but never got the work. I asked someone who they did end up using-he said Hank Scott racing. I asked him how much He spent (wanted to see if I was over price my quotes.) He said a freshen from HSR was $4000!!! I told him I couldn't fill the oil pan with ripped up $100 bills to justify that much! But I guess if your from NC, you MUST know circle track motors. (You walk into a Ferrari repair shop-which tech do you use? Luigi--or Bob?)
I'd recommend John Ganey at Performace Cycle Works in Scenectedy Ny.
.... I have talk to Hank a few times, I was planning on spend the money on a NEW Motor. I really like MY FJ, and I really like running and out running the Busa's. But, one reason, why I have not spent the money yet, I am in Florida. have not had a chance to head that way. NC. I wish I could find someone with that experience building FJ's here ....... One other thing, you said, head studs, did you use stock or from APE??
Yes-used APE studs-they were one of the very few companies that made parts for the FJ. The pistons go up + down just like any other engine-dont be scared.
