    Who does pressing to the rivots rather than weld. I don't have a shop around here to do that.

    Just an option. Not heating the backing plate might be good. I dunno, I've always welded them too.

    We have a jig that presses them together so as when welded they are compressed allowing limited flex. This is the way Falicon does it also.

    I just use three 6 inch vise grips that I modified to hold the rivets for welding, works pretty well. Milling off the welds on a basket that has been done already is sure hard on the end mill cutters.
