Matheson Adds to his Lead in Australian Championship

Chris Matheson and his Nitro Voodoo Team have continued their success in this year’s Australian Thunder 400 Championship series.

Last weekend Matheson had his moments in the lead up to the final, with a close call heading for the wall, then a wild bronco ride in the deep end, trying to stop the Voodoo beast.

Matheson faced off with long-time rival Chris Porter, beating Porter to the line only to tag a timing cone near the finish line, resulting in disqualification.

Matheson said “it’s all part of the deal with these machines, some days luck is on your side, other days it’s not. In the final I struggled to see due to my visor “fogging”, it was getting to risky in the dark, with little vision drifting, hence my brush with the timing marker. It was a good weekend for our Team, second place allowed us to pick up a bag of points and some good data for our engine program, which will help us at the next round in Sydney”.

Matheson said “the event was run in great Autumn weather, with a big family orientated crowd, which was great to see. We now focus our attention to the next Championship round in the running of the Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder meeting to be held on 5-6 May at Sydney Dragway.

Matheson said “all the Team are looking forward to the Sydney round in a few weeks. We have had plenty of success at Sydney Dragway over the years. We still hold the track record set a few years back in the 6.0’s. With only two rounds left in our Championship, the next round will be a critical one, setting the stage for the Grand Final at the Winternationals in June”.

Matheson has lead the Championship from the season opener and is eager to continue that successful formula to the seasons end.
