AHDRA, WORLD'S FASTEST STREET BIKES FEATURED AT ROCKINGHAM

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Responding to the growing popularity of motorcycle drag racing, especially in the South, Rockingham Dragway President Steve Earwood has announced a 2002 schedule that includes five motorcycle-only events including the traditional All-Harley Drag Racing Association Eastern Finals on Oct. 5-6 In addition, the track will continue to include motorcycles in its weekly B-107 Fast Fridays Street Drags program and will crown a track motorcycle champion in the Holcomb Motorsports Drag Racing Series.

The cornerstone of the 2002 bike program, however, will be the return of the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires World's Fastest Street Bike Series, which will be contested in conjunction with four of the five scheduled all-motorcycle events.

The World's Fastest Street Bike Series will begin with the March 16-17 running of the MAX V/Spencercycle.com Spring Open and will continue with the Cycle Concepts "School's Out" Bikefest on June 8-9, the Schnitz Summer Sizzler on July 27-28 and the season-ending Lee's Performance Fall Bike Nationals on Nov. 16-17.Doug "Underdog" Ray of Salisbury, N.C., is the defending champion in the Mickey Thompson-backed series that last year attracted entrants from as far away as Illinois, Delaware, Indiana, New Jersey, Florida and Louisiana.

In addition to the M/T World's Fastest Street Bike Series, each of those aforementioned races will feature Outlaw Pro Street, the Sanford Ford 5.60 heads-up class, Pro ET and Street ET.

"I think this is one of the most comprehensive motorcycle programs in the nation," Earwood said. "In addition to five feature events and our weekly programs, motorcycles also are prominently featured in our two cornerstone races, the IHRA Holley Spring Nationals in March and the IHRA CARQUEST World Finals in October."
