020800c3.jpg (50317 bytes)A DREAM COME TRUE
by Pam Collins

Thursday, September 16, 2004

1999 was truly a beginning year for the Jr. Pro Drag Bike. Two racing organizations added the Jr. classes to their program: AHDRA & ADBA. Now the kids have a place to race. Chris Smith, Genesis Racing, has been wanting to race the Jr. Pro Drag Bike since he was 8 years old. TPM had just began building the Jr. Pro Drag Bike back in 1992 and kept promising Chris that he could race. Time went on and 7 years later Chris finally got his race. He raced 1999 with AHDRA and was awarded #1 plate in the 11-16 yr. old class. At the AHDRA banquet a film was shown of the junior racers doing their burn outs and speeding (45 mph) down the track. I sat there with tears streaming down my face watching a dream come true. The whole Junior Class was high lighted and I was especially moved by watching Justin Sneed at nine years old in his first race with his dad running beside him. Then their was Zach Watts who told the media that he had been coming to the drags since he was nine months old and now he can race, too. Or how about 'Tadpole', racing for Winners Circle Racing; this kids a pro and you can tell by the appearance of his awesome Jr. Pro Drag Bike, leathers, and team.

It's been a long hard uphill battle for TPM to see the fruits of their labor. It's more then building a bike, it's giving birth to a vision. This vision began with Ray & Pam Collins and family going to the Harley Drags and just 020800c1.jpg (25274 bytes)wanting to be a part of it all. It's something all of us have felt as we've watched 'Da Judge' Jim Mc Clure do a burn out, we shout & holler and our eyes burn and get teary and we sniff after that exhilarating smell of nitro. It's the atmosphere: the racing; the bikes; and the people that we enjoy being with . Harley Drag Racing is the sport we love. You've been there, you know what I'm talking about. We all just want to be around the racers that travel across country just to light 'em up and get to the end of the track faster then any one else. What a rush it must be; to straddle that machine and follow that dream. I lift my hat to the organizations and the racers that give it their all for the sake of the sport they love best.

And now thanks to these two terrific organizations, AHDRA & ADBA who have caught hold of the vision to let the kids race. Now not only can the racing families be able to help their juniors race; but those of you that have wanted to be part of this intriguing sport can help your son or daughter get involved in something you love to020800c2.jpg (36361 bytes) do. Families put together their own racing teams and get involved with the junior class. They show up at the races in everything from their RV's to their pick up trucks. We carry The Jr. Pro Drag Bike in our mini van. It's very convenient and economical. The teams get all uniformed out, the Bike is painted up and flashy, and the kids are the star; he pulls up to the staging lane; does his burn out; stages and wins the race. It's an experience like none other. R emember when you we re a kid; everything had so much excitement and thrill; you FELT LIKE YOU could conquer the world. We can make so much happen for the kids if we just get involved. Now it's time to rally behind this younger generation & help them race.

Getting back to the story about Chris Smith , he told me IN 1999 he was going to win the first Junior championship. He did just that. This year 2000 he's going to try to make as many races as possible and win another championship. Next year he will be graduating to the adult class.. Again he will be a first. He will be the first to have raced the junior class and move up into the adult class. You see other sports have always had something for the kids to begin in and move up to. Now the sport we all love the best, Harley Drag Racing, has something for our kids to be trained up in, too. And I have to admit Harley Drag Racers are some of the finest people for our kids to model themselves after.
