EVENT RESULTS: MIR Superbike Showdown

courtesy Jason Miller, MIR

MIR’s Superbike Showdown Series went out with a Bang at the Superbike Showdown Finals this past Sunday! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any bigger, it does. MIR was packed by 376 bikes in competition, and just over 1500 spectators. Matt Polito even stated, "The series has reached critical mass". Racers made the trek from all over the country to compete at the Finals. Dave & Ryan Schnitz came from as far west as Decatur, Indiana and Outlaw Pro Street racer Bernard Cannon came from as far south as Miami, Florida.

Outlaw Pro Street is closing in on the end of The Rock & MIR points series. John Collins took the points lead at the first race of the year at The Rock and has held it ever since. Richard Eddinger qualified #1 with a 7.53 @ 181mph. Richard also won Outlaw Pro Street defeating John Collins by just .11 of a second, Richard’s 7.823 to John’s 7.836. All John Collins has to do to lock the points up in Rockingham is win 1st round.

MIR’s all new 60" Super Street class was kicked off at the Superbike Finals in style. Steve Knecum showed everyone that he is "the man" on a 60" wheelbase bike. Steve flexed his all motor muscle 91 Suzuki GSXR taking the #1 qualifying spot with a 9.05 @ 151mph. Steve went on to win the class defeating Mike Tona’s all motor 92 Suzuki GSXR in the final. The final was only seperated by just .02 of a second. Mike Tona had the better reaction time, and ran a 9.052 @ 156mph, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Steve Knecum’s stout 8.99 @ 156mph. The class does allow nitrous and turbos, but these two go to show that nothing beats all muscle.

The Quick 32 ET final was won at the finish line. David Ashton of Aberdeen, MD won the Quick 32 defeating Buz Dowell in the Final. Both racers show that you don’t need a delay box to cut a bulb, David’s .518 reaction time to Buz’s .517 reaction time. Consistency was the key to David’s win as he ran .04 over his 8.45 dial-in and pushed Buz to run out.

Ken George came from Hackettstown, NJ to win the Superbike ET class. The race was over before it got started as Steve Bess went red with a .464 reaction time to Ken’s .569 reaction time.

Charles Kay and his 99 Hayabusa won the Streetbike ET Final over Lennard Proctor’s 98 Suzuki. Both racers had .600 reaction times and both racers ran under their dial-in, but Charles Kay ran out by less and took the win.

MIR would like to say thank you to all participants that competed in the series in 2000, and are eager to start the 2001 season next year. Also extending thanks to all of the series sponsors that make this program possible for the racers. Sponsorship opportunities for this series are being taken now for the 2001 season.
