All three Team Green/Chevy Trucks Kawasaki Drag Racing members
lead the AMA/Prostar championship series in their respective
categories, after a great showing at the 38th annual Orient
Express U.S. Nationals from Atco, NJ.
ZX-12 Street Bike Shootout rider,
Rickey Gadson dominated the field by winning the event, qualifying
on the pole, and setting low elapsed-time and top mph. In
the four rounds of eliminations Gadson ran remarkably quick
and consistent elapsed-times of 7.80, 7.82, 7.84, and 7.81.
"That ZX-12 is one bad bike,"
Gadson said. "Consistency wins races and these guys on
this team give me consistency. My crew chief Coby Adams keeps
the bike tight. All I have to do is jump on and ride it. The
crew has been working diligently and it shows up."
Gadson, certainly no stranger
to success at his home track in Atco, has been winning events
at the venue since 1984.
"It feels so great to be
able to win here at home in front of all of my family and
friends," Gadson said.
With the victory Gadson has not
been beat in over year and maintains a nine race winning streak.
With three races left to go Gadson has a comfortable 252 point
lead in the championship series.
Chip Hunter, rider of the ZX-6
600 Super Sport, scored a much needed victory to extend his
points lead over a quickly encroaching Yamaha-mounted Ed Krawiec.
Mirroring Gadson, Hunter also qualified number-one, and recorder
low elapsed-rime and top mph of the event. Hunter posted times
of 9.91, 9.93, 9.84, 9.97, and a critical 9.85 to beat Krawiec
in the final.
"I think our motor is finally
right where we want it to be," Hunter said. "We
had great 60-foot, and 330-times all weekend. Beyond that
I was just sitting on the taillight."
Hunter now looks capture his
first championship by building on his seven point lead over
Krawiec.
"I fell good about our chances
to win the championship," Hunter said. "It's just
a matter of me doing what I have to do and running my own
race."
2002 Funny Bike champ turned
Formula Superbike jockey, Chip Ellis set low elapsed-time
en route to advancing to his sixth final of the year. Ellis
was defeated in the final by Tom Miceli, but still enjoys
a 129 point lead over Phill Davis in the championship series.
"We have been working really
hard," Ellis said. "I think the bike is definitely
back on track. We just ran into the Tommy-jinx again."
The Team Green/Chevy Trucks Drag
Racing championship quest will continue at the tour's next
race, the Schnitz Fall Nationals, October 4th-5th from Montgomery,
AL.
