Veidec Racing Pro Stock Bike Team

The Veidec Racing Pro Stock Bike
team started their sucessful European Finals early with a
Tuesday arrival in time for testing at Wednesday's Press Day,
says Crew Chief Roger Lyrén.
"The Press Day is very good
for testing, and for meeting all the Press in a more relaxed
way", says Roger. "The Veidec team had three runs
for Helen Curran and two for Roger Pettersson, and we learned
a lot for Helen with her personal best, 7.570 and a 7.320
for Roger (which is lower than the record!). The conditions
were very good, no head or side wind as there normally is
at Santa Pod. All of this was very promising for the European
Finals starting on Friday, could we go to the 7.2 zone?
"Qualifying started OK for
Roger, 7.395 which gave us the number one spot. Helen had
bad luck, she ran a 7.90 and that was on only four gears rolling
through line. An electrical problem just cut the ignition
just when Helen put in the fifth gear and on these two-valve
engines the valves on intake are very close to the piston
so it just hit and also broke the cam chain, four valves and
tappets. Since this is Roger's spare engine we had to repair
it at the track. We don't usually do work like this at the
track, we just change engine, but now we didn't have any choice.
As usual Roger from MotoSpeed had lots of spares and we found
some blank valves, retainers and tappets, so we could repair
it.
The whole team started to work
on the engine and it was ready at three o'clock on Saturday
morning.

"Sadly, Helen missed the
first qualifying on Saturday morning because the nut came
off the sprocket. So now there was only one more chance for
Helen to qualify. When the last qualifying session started,
the wind got wery strong and with one pair left, Helen and
Samuele Spiga, they stopped the session. After about two hours
the wind speed went down so Helen could make her run, and
a 7.66 put her in sixth position (sorry to Kenneth Stromberg
for bumping him out). Roger stayed in first position, this
is is sixth number one qualifer this year, he also set low
ET and high speed at every race.
Sunday's race gave us lots of
good tight racing. Roger went through the first round against
Martin Bishop and the semi again Anders Larsson, Roger running
7.35 which was low ET and a track record. Roger beat Vesa
Rautio in the final. Helen faced Chris Hope in the first round,
she was out first but Chris made his best run of the weekend
at 7.49, beating Helen.
(Thank you! - Ed). Big thanks
also to all of the team: Roger, Helen, Henke, Lasse, Atle,
Pal, Stefan and Dick for making this weekend possible, of
course thanks also to all the families who took care of everything
at home when we were away.
Now we heading for USA to meet
the big boys and girls in NHRA we will do the 2 last races
Las Vegas and Pomona, last time we raced there 1998 we qualified
no:14 and the goal for this trip is to be in the race for
Sunday.
"Thanks
also to all of our sponsors:
