Pleasant
Racing at the AMRA Indiana Nationals
at Bunker Hill Indiana All Harley Drags!
We take the Winnebago
Motor Home for a ride to the AMRA Nitro Harley Davidson Drags
at the famous Bunker Hill motor speedway, Indiana's first
drag strip.
Saturday morning
we were on our way to three rounds of qualifying. The first
round we chose the right lane, knowing from 22 years experience
and this being our home track the right lane has the most
traction and is the most level. Into the burn out box I go,
with the tire hot and the fuel system wide open we are off,
10 feet out the motor revs to the clouds, we broke the primary
chain. Off to the trailer we go to assess the damage.
Tuning the Barnett
Clutch has shown us how well it handles 350 HP. With a new
chain and prox sensor for the S&S crank we are back in
business. Into the second round we soften our tune up a little
and chose the right lane, into the lights, FLASH were gone,
pulling left a little, but the pass is savable running. A
5.16 at 130.26 this qualified ! us at #6 we were happy.
Sunday morning
it's raining, we can't seem to get away from it. We wait it
out and about 12:00 noon the skies are blue and the track
is dry, looks like a beautiful day for racing. Into the first
round our competitor again is Gary Stroud. Gary ran a 4.93
Saturday to put him into the #3 spot for qualifying. Gary
always being a great competitor we knew we needed an improvement
of at least 2 tenths to beat him. My crew chief Dick Boxell
makes the decision to adjust the timing one-degree. “Profuel
to the lanes” the announcer calls, we ready the bike
and are headed for the track. Pulling into the staging lanes
we are put into the left lane. Gary’s qualifying better
gave him lane choice. Not having a pass in this lane we make
a gamble and leave our set up alone. Into the burn out box
we go, with the tire hot and computer on we stage, FLASH were
off, Gary pulls me on the bottom end with a better light,
but about mid track I am gaining on him, pulling hard and
straight!
We came close but
again, but Gary runs a little better. Our 5.08 is a click
behind his 4.98. Again I cant say enough about Gary and his
girlfriend for being such great competitors. So off to Quenchers
Bar & Grill to tell our friends about the weekend. Thanks
to our sponsors Winnebago, Barnett, S&S Cycle, Quenchers,
Deans Paint & Body, Pleasantville Cookie Co., Max Pitts
Cycle Sales and B &D for their support.
THE BEST IS YET
TO COME..
