AHDRA

FAST TRACK IN INDY LEADS TO NEW NATIONAL RECORDS
AT THE JOKER MACHINE INDY NATIONALS.

AHDRA’s first appearance at Indianapolis Raceway Park ended with plenty of excitement and new marks in the record books when Steve Stordeur of Goshen, OH, blazed the quarter mile with a 6.378 at 220.58 MPH in the final round of Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley Top Fuel competition.

Riding on the Mancuso Harley-Davidson sponsored bike, Stordeur bettered his own record ET (6.389, set in 2001) with the winning pass over RMC Racing’s Drums Brancaccio of Nutley, NJ. Fellow teammate Johnny Mancuso (Houston, TX) scored the MPH numbers that were good enough to set and back up a new MPH record with a 219.47 pass in Sunday’s opening round of eliminations, ousting Doug Vancil’s record of 217.25 set earlier in the season.

Tripp Nobles (Statesville, NC) “tripped” the ET record numbers in the finals of Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod with a 9.572 at 141.42 MPH over Jamie McNaughton of Milwaukee, WI, who scored the top speed of 141.62 MPH. Both McNaughton and Nobles took the V-Rods into the fifties over the weekend, bettering the existing record of 9.726.
James Dixon of Dubuque, IA, landed the new Dragmasters Hot Street top marks with his 10.430 ET and 128.25 MPH 1/4-mile numbers. Donnie Huffman (Lakeland, FL) came away with the win over Dixon in Sunday’s final round.

Other highlights included a first-time JIMS Pro Fuel win for Ohio’s John Martin.

Martin and the Aces and Eights H-D team came with several hundred fans in tow from the Cincinnati area and found themselves in the final round with Sam White after a center-line infraction from a disappointed Russ Hildenbrand (Ruffsdale, PA) disqualified his 7.074 at 194.58 over Martin’s 7.089 at 169.06 MPH pass. Martin went on to win with a 7.078 at 181.74 MPH over White’s 7.247 at 19.14 MPH.

Michael Mulderink of Chicago took the Kresto Pro Drag win over Russ Welch (College Station, TX), while Gary Stroud (Valparaiso, IN) upset defending champion Frank Dove in the Hayes Jeweler Pro Gas final. Dove, of Hughesville, MD, held the top numbers of the day with a 7.814 at 172.85 MPH, but mechanical gremlins kept him from making the final round call.
