Team Trim-Tex
preps for Reading, Take Two
For Team Trim-Tex, an NHRA Pro
Stock Bike team, the biggest challenge facing them at the
Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Reading, PA, wasn't the other
motorcycle racers trying to edge driver Geno Scali out of
his top spot in the NHRA POWERade championship points race
- it was mother nature, whose unnerving rain forced the postponement
of the event following only one round of competition for the
Pro classes.
Now three weeks later, Team
Trim-Tex is making the trek back to Reading intent on improving
their fifth place qualifying effort, set with a 7.175-second
run during the one Friday qualifying pass. The team will have
two more qualifying opportunities on Saturday, Oct. 4.
"I feel as ready as I was
before, but going back to Reading is almost like going to
a brand new event since we just got in one run and it was
before Memphis (the most recent event that the class participated
in)," Scali said.
"Even though we had a solid run the first time around,
I want to improve so we have a better idea of how well we're
capable of running on Sunday. This will be a quick race with
just two days scheduled to complete it, so I really feel that
finding consistency on Saturday with both passes is the key
to doing well in eliminations," he said.
Despite the rain delays at Reading
a few weeks ago, Scali took advantage of the opportunity to
meet with fans. "During the downtime, we hung out at
our pits and talked with people," he said. "That
was pretty cool because we had a chance to meet so many fans,
especially the kids, who were still excited to be there despite
the weather. It means a lot to me that I can be a role model
to them."
With just a few days remaining
until the return to Reading, Team Trim-Tex is making some
finishing touches on their Suzuki. "The expected temperatures
look pretty good, so if the weather holds up this weekend
I've got my fingers crossed that we'll have some really quick
runs," Scali said.
The first Pro Stock Bike qualifying
session of the re-scheduled event begins at approximately
2:30 p.m. (EST), Saturday, Oct. 4.
