Treble
stopped by Rain, then Hale in Reading
Reading, PA - Sunday
Post Race: Three weeks after the start of the Lucas Oil Nationals
in Reading Pennsylvania, the event wrapped up after a day
of great racing conditions and near record setting performances.
Matco Tools rider Craig Treble had predicted Pro Stock Bike
runs in the 7.0's this weekend in Reading and the local fans
were not disappointed as three different riders clocked near
record runs during Sunday final eliminations. The problem
for Treble is that he was not one of them. "We really
were set to run fast here at Maple Grove, but we broke a motor
Saturday and that had us trying to guess at a set-up for Sunday
morning." Said Treble.
The Matco Tools
bike ran a losing 7.183 to 2003 Denver champion Blaine Hale's
7.178 pass. "He just plain kicked my butt, that's a quote",
explained Treble who still found a silver lining in the first
round upset. "We did learn something significant here
and I think it will help us at the next two NHRA POWERade
National events."
Another bright spot for the Matco Tools Pro Stock Bike team
will be the return of Crew Chief Calvin Askew who has missed
the last few races. 'Having Calvin back will help the whole
team, he's one of the keys to our success and I can't wait
to have him back at the track"
Treble
believes records could tumble in Reading
Reading, PA - Friday
Pre Race: The second attempt at running the rained out Lucas
Oil Nationals in Reading Pennsylvania this weekend may feature
even better record breaking weather conditions than the event
that was attempted three weeks earlier. "This may be
the weekend someone grabs the $10,000 for running the first
6 in Pro Stock Bike, I sure would love for it to be us."
Said Craig Treble referring to the inaugural spot in the Mickey
Thompson 6 Second Club.
The next great
barrier the NHRA Pro Stock Bikes have been flirting with has
been the 6-second run. "All the top teams have been working
very hard to get that first 6 second time slip, and I can
tell you that our Matco Tools team has been as serious as
you can get trying to put our name first in the Mickey Thompson
6 Second Club."
The début of the new Matco Tools Suzuki at this track
three weeks ago also give the Matco Tools Team an added sense
of excitement. Craig explained, "We ran a 7.170 / 185,
which put us in the No. 3 spot, but we now know from running
in Memphis that we can give this bike more than we attempted
to last time here in Reading. I think we will need to step
it up anyway because the way the weather conditions are looking
right now, our 7.17 might just be the bump spot by Saturday
night."
The Pro Stock Bikes
are scheduled for two Saturday Oct 4th qualifying sessions
at 11am, and 2:30 pm.
