Mark Cox
Racing Positive About Run at Chicago;
Looks to Rockingham this Weekend
Mark Cox Racing
was happy to participate in the recent National Hot Rod Association
(NHRA) invitational race at Chicago, Illinois this past weekend
in conjunction with the Carquest Auto Parts NHRA (National
Hot Rod Association) Nationals at the Route 66 Dragway.
“Things went
great this past weekend,” said Cox. “We didn’t
get the win, but we qualified high and ran fast. We were real
quick right out of the truck with a 6.46 ET, which put us
second in qualifying. After qualifying was all said and done
we were third. There were only two rounds of qualifying because
we had heavy rain on Friday.”
Cox faced Jack Romine in the first round finals and won with
a 6.488 ET at 214.72 mph against Romine’s 6.6400 ET
at 218.69 mph. Cox came up against Doug Vancil in the semi-final
round.
“We knew
we had to pick-up our short time on the 0 to 330-foot mark,”
said Cox. “We’ve been challenged and kind of short
there. Conditions were good and it’s a great racetrack
at Chicago. We stayed on a consistent tune-up and it just
wasn’t enough for Vancil. Cox clocked a 6.579 ET at
227.61 mph against Vancil’s 6.294 ET at 216.41 mph in
the second round to give Vancil the win, who then lost to
Mark Connor in the final round. Cox had the fastest speed
during weekend eliminations with his 227-mile per hour run.
Every time we run, we learn more. We learned some good information
this past weekend though and we’ll be able to apply
it at Rockingham. We got great exposure for Screamin’
Eagle with the NHRA race this past weekend.”
Mark Cox Racing
will do a special personal appearance at the Rockingham Bojangle’s
restaurant on Friday, October 3rd from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
“We’re
looking forward to Rockingham,” added Cox. “The
Rock is our home racetrack and we always have good luck there.
It should be a big weekend for us.”
Mark Cox Racing’s
2003 schedule includes the following remaining races: October
3-5, AHDRA Rockingham, NC; October 9-12, NHRA Dallas, TX;
October 17-19, AHDRA Las Vegas, NV.
