A FULL SIX-SECOND
NITRO HARLEY FIELD AND NEW NATIONAL RECORDS AT THE SCREAMIN’
EAGLE PERFORMANCE PARTS NATIONALS PRESENTED BY THE CAROLINA
HARLEY-DAVIDSON DEALERS ASSOCIATION. OCTOBER 4TH AND
5TH, ROCKINGHAM DRAGWAY.
AHDRA racers
rocked the grandstands at Rockingham Dragway with new
national records and the quickest Screamin’ Eagle
Nitro Harley field in the sanction’s history.
Twenty-two
riders attempted to qualify for the Nitro Harley field
– and it took better than a 6.921 to get in Sunday’s
show.
Mark Cox
of Yadkinville, NC, showed the nearly 8,000 on hand
what it took to get the #1 spot with a .410/194.46 mph
final qualifying pass. Doug Vancil (Albuquerque, NM)
followed in the #2 spot with a 6.426 and an incredible
222.66 mph quarter-mile blast.
Vancil made
his way through the tough field on Sunday, finishing
the day with a 6.439/214.59 mph win over Drums Brancaccio
(Nutley, NJ), who lit the red bulb before a 6.830 at
203.06 mph. Vancil has the 2003 National Championship
title wrapped up and will compete in the AHDRA season
finale in Las Vegas on October 18th and 19th.

Mark Conner (Canyon Lake,
TX) thrilled the crowd with his JIMS Pro Fuel "Flyin’
Banana" entry, finishing the day with a win over
North Carolina’s Jay Turner. Conner set the new
national speed record of 207.34 mph. Chris Streeter
of Cleveland, OH, has a firm grip on the JIMS Pro Fuel
Championship even after Turner took him out in the second
round in Rockingham. Streeter will head to Vegas to
wrap up his Championship season.
In Rivera-Primo
Street Pro, Travis Lummus took another win, beating
Doug Morrow (Daytona Beach, FL) in the final. Lummus,
of Asheville, NC, put solid numbers in the record books
with a 9.046 in the quarter-mile and a 5.780 at 122.42
mph in the eighth-mile. Lummus joins Vancil and Streeter
in Vegas with a wrapped-up National Championship, a
fourth straight title for the Gene Lummus Harley-Davidson
team.

The Screamin’
Eagle V-Rod class landed new records after Statesville,
NC’s Tripp Nobles scored a winning pass of 9.380
at 142.75 mph over Milwaukee, WI’s Jamie McNaughton.
Nobles also added eighth-mile record numbers of 5.996
at 119.36 mph. The Tilley Harley-Davidson sponsored
ride will compete in the Vegas finals with the
Championship title under their belt.
Junior Pippin
of Conyers, GA, took the win in Joker Machine Pro Modified
over Eddie Lee (Douglasville, GA) while setting a new
eighth-mile record of 129.80 mph.
Veteran racer
Ray Price was on hand to represent the Carolina Harley-Davidson
and presented the trophys in Rockingham. Price of Raleigh,
NC, is absent from racing due to injuries sustained
earlier in the season, but put rider Wayne Pollack filled
in on the Ray Price H-D ride and qualified eleventh
in the Nitro Harley field before being eliminated in
Sunday’s first round.
