Should
Super Gas be Re-Indexed
Stock sport bikes reaching the 9.90 index prompt the
question:
What's next for the class? Your vote counts.
With showroom bikes hitting the 9.90 current index of
the RC Components Super Gas series bikes with somewhat
ease, many wonder if the class is really an option for
racers to trade-up to. It used to be that racers needed
a custom frame, engine and trans work, as well as wheelie
bars and a slick to be able to hit the 9.90 index of
the class. This became an attractive option for street
riders who wanted to step into the index classes of
the AMA/Prostar U.S. Drag Racing Championship series.
With the
advent of the Hayabusa and the ZX12, this number was
relatively easy to hit off of the showroom floor. Although
the number is in reach, the consistent performance of
racers such as Mike Coulson, usually sent
the street tire bikes back to the trailers.
When it comes
down to it, many racers want to go fast, and want to
play in the big-game with 7inch or better tires, custom
frames, electronics, lockup clutches, wheelie bars and
more. In many circles, building or
buying, and racing these machines is somewhat of a motorcycle
drag racers sign that they are bigger part of what AMA/Prostar
is all about.
The 9.90
index of the class is starting to question that belief,
and newer racers are not really as willing to put up
another 10k or more to build a competitive machine that
will go as quick as what they ride to the quickie-mart.
We want to
hear your thoughts, so we have created a poll to gather
them.
Do you want
to keep it as it is? Do you have a Timex bike that just
keeps ticking away at the 9.90 index? Do you support
a three-year program that will progressively drop the
index to 9.20? Do you want to just drop it to a lower
number now, and if so, what do you think is realistic.
What do the fans think? Would you like to see the action
of riders tring to dial in, many older machines in order
to hit the number?
Please take
some time to give us your votes. You can take a look
at the poll here
. AMA/Prostar is excited to see the responses from racers
and fans alike. Lets think of the growth of the sport,
and try to get sport riders to take a serious look at
Super Gas as an energetic quick, and fast motorcycle
drag racing class.
