Racing Deals with
Unfortunate Circumstances at Dallas NHRA Race
The Mark Cox Racing
team faced some tough times at last weekend's O'Reilly Fall
Nationals presented by Castrol Syntech at the NHRA Championships
in Ennis, Texas. Despite their valiant efforts, they were
unable to make the race.
"This was
very hard on our team," said rider/owner Cox. "However,
we found out what our problem was and certainly have a positive
outlook going into Vegas next weekend. We dropped out of the
truck with a 6.618 ET at 203.57 mph and sat number three after
first round qualifying. Then we continued trying to step up
our tune-up and the bike just would not respond. We just could
not get the bike happy."
The team was on
the bump with a 6.57 ET in the final round of qualifying.
Unable to improve their time in the last round, the bump moved
to a 6.55 ET, which put the Mark Cox Racing team on the truck
and out of competition.
"This was the fastest nitro Harley field ever in NHRA
competition," said Johnny Vickers of Hawaya Racing, crew
chief for Mark Cox Racing. "Usually we're able to pick
our time up with the best of them, but it just didn't happen
for us this weekend."
"We just felt
something was wrong with the motor, so we tore the engine
down to freshen it up for Vegas and found we had a piston
problem which caused us to be down on horsepower. This apparently
happened when we freshened up the bike after Rockingham. It's
unfortunate, but we win as a team and lose as a team. I know
what caliber of team we have and everyone knows we will bounce
back from this and move forward," added Cox.
The season ending
race for Mark Cox Racing will be next weekend in Las Vegas,
Nevada for the AHDRA finale.
