ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Elm City's Allen Kea won the battle
but Doug "Underdog" Ray won the war in the wrap-up to the Mickey
Thompson Performance Tires World's Fastest Street Bike Series at Steve
Earwood's Rockingham Dragway.
Kea won the last race in the series in spectacular fashion. Kea beat
both title contenders en route to a victory that enabled him to lock
up third place in the final standings.
Kea beat Ryan Schnitz of Decatur, Ind., in the second round, took out
Ray in the semifinals and then bested Alphonso Thompson Sr. of Blades,
Del., in the final to earn his first win of the season.
The victory over Schnitz handed the series title to Ray who, by
qualifying his Suzuki No. 1, was rewarded with a quarterfinal bye
after beating Jeff Jennings of Winston-Salem in the first round. By
advancing one round further than Schnitz, Ray won the championship by
13 points and earned a $2,500 bonus.
The World's Fastest Street Bike Series was contested over four events
during the season. The finale was run in conjunction with the Fish's
Customs Fall Bike Nationals at the Rock.
