RECORDS
FALL AT THE AMA/PROSTAR WORLD FINALS
Henson
Leaves His Mark on Gainesville
Honda now has #1 and #2 Streetbike Shootout World Records
Gainesville
FL - It's a traffic policeman's nightmare. A street
legal motorcycle, capable of over 195 mph from stoplight
to stoplight. That's the rules in the AMA/Prostar Streetbike
Shootout class, where Barry Henson and his Stotz Street
Xtreme/Velocity Racing Honda CBR1100XX set the both
ends of the performance records at 7.526 seconds and
192.63 mph.
The Shootout bikes have to have necessary street equipment,
run a D.O.T approved street tire, along with all necessary
lights and inspection tags. That's about it, anything
else pretty much goes. The trick to these bikes is to
build them as powerful as possible, yet still be able
to get it to the ground while keeping it 100% street
legal.
Henson teamed up in 2003 with 4-time champion and now
former world record holder, Kent Stotz, who held the
previous records at 7.645 seconds and 192.33 mph, on
his own Honda CBR1100XX.
Ohh
No Joe! It's Seven Whoa Geno!
Geno Scali Sets New Pro Stock Motorcycle Record
Gainesville
FL - Fresh off a 2003 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Championship,
Geno Scali officially grabbed the AMA/Prostar Pro Stock
Motorcycle record, and is now officially the quickest
Pro Stock bike rider in the world. Last night, Geno
Scali kept the Gainesville crowd as the temperatures
crept towards the 40 degree mark, and he broke loose
out of the box with a 7.013 @ 192.21mph, and backed
it up with a 7.018 at the exact 193.21mph.
The previous
record, held by Joe Koenig, was 7.029. Koeng is
incidentally, a team partner with Scali on the Trim-Tex
Sears Craftsman Suzuki. The elusive 6-second Pro Stock
bike may still be in the cards, as Geno has the completion
of the MRE Event on Friday, followed by the World Finals
this weekend, all at Gainesville Raceway. This should
give Geno all the passes he needs to dial in the Trim-Tex
Suzuki.
AMA/Prostar,
the largest motorcycle drag racing organization in the
world, beat NHRA to the punch by allowing four-valve
motors, while the former only allows two-valve versions.
Prostar Marketing Director, Jim Cara said "Allowing
four-valve engines in AMA/Prostar Pro Stock is opening
the door for racers to start developing engine setups,
which hopefully will trickle into all of the other motorcycle
racing sanctions."
Manufacturers
such as Kawasaki , Suzuki and Honda have made the switch
to four-valve engines in many late model machines, including
the large bore engines found in the high performance
street bikes. It is only fitting for AMA/Prostar to
embrace the new technology and take Pro Stock motorcycle
drag racing to the next level.
