Awaited decision surrounding Formula Superbike peaks
interest in 1000cc class
AMA/Prostar announced this morning that they will be
eliminating Formula Superbike for 2004. With that known
and the fact that Prostar has had numerous request to
add a 1000cc SuperSport class. Prostar president, Keith
Kizer said, "Prostar stands firm that we will not
consider a 60" class at this time, but would consider
a 1000 SuperSport class based off the exact rules as
600 SuperSport with the following additions:
56"
wheelbase (stock swingarm with modifications), 3mm max
overbore with stock stroke, any clutch mods (no sliders),
any fuel (no alcohol or nitro), carbon body work (for
the big guys), front end straps (with restrictions to
placement and use).
If we were
to have this class, it would be more suited for a 170-190lb
rider, so the class weight would be in the 600 lb range."
Prostar is
seeking more input and information before giving any
more thought to this class. Most importantly, who would
participate. Prostar would move the Superbike Suzuki
and Kawasaki contingencies to the new class. The class
would have the same purse as Superbike but would be
ran as a Sportsman class for the purpose of lower entry
fees to the riders.
If you are
interested in the proposed 1000cc class and would race
the class next season, please send an e-mail to info@amaprostar.com
confirming your interest. Prostar requires a minimum
number of interested racers prior to proceeding.
NOTE: Please send no comments about what other
classes you would rather see. We only need to know who
would be interested in the proposed 1000cc class. Thank
you in advance for your input.
