Collis
Leaves Star Racing
By: Jack Korpela
(Americus,
GA) - Pro Stock Motorcycle rider “Fast”
Freddie Collis ended his five year affiliation with
Star Racing this week.
“It
was a very hard decision,” Collis said. “The
folks at Star Racing are great people and have helped
me achieve some of my goals and dreams.”
During his
association with Star Racing Collis served as both a
rider for the race team and an instructor at the Frank
Hawley/Star Racing Pro Stock Bike School.
“The
last five years have been great,” Collis said.
“My time with Star was wonderful. It was a great
experience. However, at this time it was just best that
I went my own way.”
Collis began
racing under Star Racing in 1999 and won the AMA/Prostar
Pro Stock championship in his first year of contention,
earning him the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award.
Collis again won the AMA/Prostar championship in 2000
before taking a short hiatus from racing.
In 2003 Collis
fulfilled a dream by competing on the NHRA PowerAde
circuit aboard a Star Powered Suzuki TL-1000. Despite
a short-term relationship with sponsor Area 51 Motorsports,
Collis finished a respectable eighth in the championship
series and won the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus,
OH. Collis finished the 2003 season as the third quickest
rider in NHRA Pro Stock Bike history with an elapsed
time at 7.059.
“We
had a lot of success together,” Collis said. “I
will always remember and appreciate that.”
Collis has
yet to make any official announcements concerning his
forthcoming endeavors.
“I
am still considering my options for the near future,”
Collis said. “It could be a number of things.”
