Lencses, Gustafsson, Christiansen, Lymant and Isaacs headline the Main Event

After sweltering conditions for qualifying, the move to the knock-out phase of the Main Event delivered even hotter conditions at Santa Pod Raceway, England placing even more stress on the teams and machines; a situation that wasn’t helped by most of the classes running their first round of eliminations in the blazing early afternoon heat.

FIM-E Super Street Bike

Kicking off this report is the phenomenal Super Street Bike class, which remarkably delivered a slew of new personal bests and ultimately a further lowering of the European record. Daniel Donat Lencses stamped an element of authority during the first three rounds of eliminations, running high 6.5s like a bracket bike although the semifinal victory over Giannis Martzaklis (a 6.5934/211.90 to a 6.6831/221.90) came with a big pop at the finishline to set up a final round match up with Casper Racing’s principal Ioannis Lampropoulos (who accounted for Jake Mechaell at the semifinal stage with the first 1000cc entry into the 6.5s with a 6.5849 at a huge 227.79 mph). The Hungary vs. Greek trophy matchup delivered yet another class benchmark with Lencses dropping a 6.5469/224.66 over a slowing eight from Casper, who had also helped out Daniel in getting his bike ready for the final. A sensational start for what will be a sensational season for the no-bar bikes.

FIM-E Top Fuel Bike

Attrition rates stepped in the opening round of Top Fuel bike, but come the semifinals Rikard Gustafsson comfortably handled Glenn Borg’s funnybike challenge with a 6.0143/231.69 (dropping off from his opening round 5.8). His opponent in the final round would be Neil Midgley who had ridden around a substantial holeshot from Thomas Pettersson in a 6.3137 to a 6.9580. The event title went the way of Gustafsson as the Swede dipped back into the fives with a 5.9378/240.30 to Midgley’s mid six.

FIM-E Super Twin Bike

A depleted Super Twin field ended up with a Dane v Dane final, with Marcus Christiansen going head to head with compatriot Anders Jensen (the latter in his first FIM-E trophy matchup). Jensen’s mid-sevens were a consistent number, but Christiansen delivered a low ET of the event with a 6.1363 at only 198mph. The short numbers were absolutely sensational, with a 0.9934 60-foot and a half-track 3.8943, indicating the offseason changes to the setup are going to pay dividends for Speedy’s Racing.

FIM-E Pro Stock Bike

The Pro Stock field was a short affair, particularly when both David Simon and Jerome Rougemont handed victory at the semifinals stage to Jorg Lymant and Martin Bishop respectively. A slight holeshot in favor of Bishop was quickly overcome by Lymant, who produced the quickest legitimate time of the class with a 7.1964/188.99 to kick off the German’s title defense after a trouble-plagued weekend.

FIM-E Junior Dragbike

The juniors boiled down to Harry Isaacs v Hollie King, with the former consistently nailing his dial-in through eliminations. Coupling a 0.0740s RT to a +0.0526 on a 9.57 dial-in in the trophy match-up took Isaacs to his first FIM-E event win onboard his immaculate Kawasaki.
