AMA Dragbike Returns to Montgomery
Following the sudden closure of Memphis Motorsports Park, AMA Dragbike has announced they will fill the open date with a return to Montgomery Motorsports Park. AMA Dragbike last held an event at the Alabama facility in 2003.
“We are very lucky to have a quality facility like Montgomery Motorsports Park available to us for the rescheduling of this event,” said AMA Dragbike president Scott Valetti. “We knew Memphis was in negotiations with a buyer but the abrupt closure took us all by surprise.”
“Ironically, Memphis replaced Montgomery on the schedule in 2004,” added Valetti.
Jim Howard, brother of legendary drag race promoter George Howard, currently owns the Montgomery track. Howard has owned the facility for three years and has made continual improvements including a scheduled re-grinding of the race surface, which will be completed once the 2009 race season is completed.
MMP hosts such high-profile events as Pinks All Out, Arm Drop Live, the ORSCA world finals and the Southern Outlaw series.
“Jim made us feel like he really wanted to add championship motorcycle drag racing to his schedule,” said Valetti. “He worked closely with us to address all our needs which gives me confidence that this will be a very successful event.”
Montgomery Motorsports Park is located in central Alabama and is easily accessed from I-85 and I-65. The date for the 2010 event will be June 12-13, the same date previously scheduled for Memphis.
