Multiple air dates and networks cause confusion, but Kizer cheers
As AMA/Prostar moves into our first year of all event television on ESPN2 and the Outdoor Channel, we are also learning that “being flexible” is the most important asset in television.
The following statement was made today by Keith Kizer, AMA/Prostar President and CEO, regarding television air dates:
“We were tremendously proud of how everyone was ready for the television cameras at the first event. Many teams donned new uniforms, paint jobs and a fresh confidence. The excitement built all weekend long as cameras flew overhead and around the racers. Everyone anticipated seeing racing action the following Sunday, then oops.”
Our fourth quarter dates on The Outdoor Channel are firm. The shows we are learning to be flexible on are the “Inside Drag Racing” shows on ESPN2. I initially understood that the shows that would cover our events with a highlight package one week after each event. My bad. As it turns out “Inside Drag Racing” shows are produced one month in advance. Even though ESPN2 will now gladly provide us with a schedule for the show, everything is subject to change, as explained by Masters Entertainment, Ted Jones.
The show Master’s Entertainment was shooting this past weekend was rained out, so the entire schedule had to be re-done. So goes it with television shows that produce outdoor events. So I apologize for getting everyone’s hopes up for last weekend. In light of these events, Ted Jones has agreed to start providing final round highlights to us to share with other shows like, Bikeweek Magazine on the Speed channel, MotoWorld on Spike TV, etc.
Please take note that the schedule for IDR could change week to week due to weather or unforeseen conditions, but here are the current dates for the shows that will include partial coverage of our events.
Gainesville – April 11
Atlanta – May 9
Richmond – June 6
St. Louis – July 4
Norwalk – August 8
Indianapolis – October 10
Memphis – October 24
