American Motorcycle Racing Association
Rockingham Dragway
October 14-16, 2016

All the big guns went out early and Peter Geiss of Huntington, N.Y., beat Tii Tharpe of East Bend, N.C., to win the AMRA Ray Price Top Fuel championship Sunday in the 25th annual Jim McClure All-Harley Nitro Nationals at Rockingham Dragway.

Geiss just barely made the starting field in the No. 8 spot but then took out No. 1 qualifier Kevin Boyer of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in round one and veteran Ricky “Sharky” House of Humble, Texas in the semifinals.  Both riders had trouble in the final but Geiss was just quick enough to get the win.

16-1017-amra-peter-geissOther champions included Jack Romine of Centerville, Mich., in Nitro Funny Bike and Carolina legend and American Motorcycle Racing Association national record holder Johnny Vickers in Pro Fuel.

Vickers, making an infrequent start in the AMRA series, took out No. 1 qualifier Kirby Apathy of Deland, Fla., in a classic semifinal race and then took down Tyler Wilson of Walnut Cove, N.C., in the final to repeat as McClure Nitro Nationals champion

Weekend Time Sheets

Saturday Qualifying Round 2

Q-2 was run very late due to the Rockingham starting line tree being taken out. The long delay cut the day to 2 qualifying runs for all classes. Because of this, it was announced that Sunday morning, Sportsman will run first as a Q-3 for them. If time permits, there will be a vote from the Pro racers, to see if they want to have a Q-3 OR proceed to E-1. This will be determined tomorrow.

Jack Romine is the F/B front man with a 6.73.

Sharkey (L) and Tak (R) lit the place up for 1320 feet and woke the fans up!

Ryan Oehler is top gun in P/M after Q-2.

Kevin Boyer in T/F is #1 qualifier after 2 rounds, 6.35.

Kirby Apathy was flying in Q-2 with a stout 7.22 @ 180 MPH

Stacey Bortz is #1 Qual after 2 sessions in Outlaw Street.

Pro Fuel bikes have close to 10 bikes in the pits and F/B should have a full field. There’s near two dozen nitromethane burning thunder bikes ready to do battle.

After Q-1, we will have an official count of the combatants in the classes.

Mike Beland has clinched the 2016 T/F #1 plate for AMRA by virtue of his points totals coming into the event.
