Cooler Air, Bigger Stakes for XDA Pro Street at WPGC Bike Fest

The Orient Express Pro Street field doesn’t get much time to catch its breath after Rockingham. Just weeks after Jason Dunigan rewrote the record book at the 190 Hookup.com Superbike Showdown, XDA rolls into Maryland International Raceway July 24-26 for the WPGC Bike Fest, and the forecast alone could make this one of the more interesting stops on the 2026 calendar.

A Break From the Heat

After a Rockingham weekend defined by oppressive heat and storm delays, racers heading to Maryland are being told to expect the opposite problem this time: cooler-than-normal temperatures for late July. For a class where hundredths of a second separate the top of the ladder from the middle of the pack, that’s not a small detail. Cooler air is denser air, and denser air means more oxygen for the turbos and superchargers that make up most of this field to work with. Tuners will be adjusting for a friendlier density altitude than they’re used to seeing in the middle of summer, and that usually shows up on the time slip.

A Field With Something to Prove

Dunigan arrives at MIR as the new number one on the Orient Express Pro Street GOAT list, having taken the record away from five-time and reigning champion Rodney Williford with back-to-back wins and a new class record of 6.283. He’s also carrying the points lead into Maryland, and a cooler track could mean he has more record left to give.

He won’t have the class to himself. Jeremy Teasley‘s runner-up run at Rockingham, capped by a new personal best of 6.306, was the clearest sign yet that the Connelly Racing program is back to being a real threat for wins, not just semi-final appearances. Spencer Claycomb and Jamie Lopes both leave Rockingham with new personal bests of their own and plenty of momentum heading north.

Meanwhile, Williford will be looking to answer back after an early exit at Rockingham cost him the top spot on the GOAT list for the first time in years. A track running cooler and quicker than normal is about as good a setup as he could ask for to get back in the record conversation.

A Deep Field Chasing the Record

What makes Maryland worth watching isn’t just the top of the ladder, it’s how deep the entry list runs. Behind Dunigan, Williford, and Teasley sit Mark Rendeluk and Justin Shakir, both former 6.30-second racers in their own right and both capable of a number that would put them in the final round. A step back from that pack, Spencer Claycomb and Jamie Lopes head into MIR having already lowered their own personal bests once this season, and a cooler track gives both a real shot at doing it again.

The middle of the field is just as crowded. Rudy Sanzoterra, Ryan Bonitatis, Mike Sweeney Jr, Kenny Brewer, and Jayson Geerman are all within roughly two tenths of each other on the current GOAT list, the kind of bunching that tends to produce first-round upsets. Kaleb Wood, Andrew Ritchey, and Dylan Neman round out a group still working their bikes toward the class record pace, and Brad Christian and Brett Ware give the ladder its full 16-bike depth.

One entry breaks the pattern outright. NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Gaige Herrera sits at number seven on the GOAT list at 6.392, the only nitrous-powered bike inside the top tier of a field otherwise dominated by turbocharged combinations. However, Herrera’s number holds up against a weekend of turbo tune-ups; it’s worth watching how a nitrous combination handles the cooler, denser air compared to the boosted bikes around it.

Tony Ficher‘s supercharged entry carries a similar distinction lower in the order, giving Maryland a genuine three-way mix of turbo, nitrous, and supercharged power in the same 16-bike field, something Pro Street doesn’t see very often.

European Debut: Lencsés Brings a New DME Racing Bike to the States

Maryland also marks a first for the class. Donát Dániel Lencsés is making the trip from Hungary for his XDA debut, arriving as the fastest Super Streetbike racer in Europe with a best of 6.546. He’ll make that debut on a brand-new, as-yet-untested Pro Street bike built by DME Racing, meaning his first pass at MIR will also be the first pass on the bike itself.

A new combination making its first competitive run is always a wildcard, and doing it on an unfamiliar track an ocean away from home raises the degree of difficulty further. Lencsés won’t be chasing the GOAT list this weekend so much as establishing a baseline, but a clean shakedown run would be a notable marker for DME Racing’s newest build and for European Super Streetbike’s standing against the American Pro Street ranks.

What’s at Stake

With the record just reset and the points battle still very much open, WPGC Bike Fest sets up as a chance for Dunigan to extend his advantage, or for Williford, Teasley, and the rest of the deep field chasing him to start closing the gap. Add in a weather window that favors quick numbers, a nitrous bike punching above its power adder, and a brand-new international entry making its first pass, and Maryland could produce another shake-up to the GOAT list before the season is even at its halfway point.
