Ryan Peery Wins Nitro Harley at IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series at Darana Raceway

The Nitro Harley class brought out a full 18-bike field for the IHRA Triple Crown Race 1 at Darana Raceway, with 16 riders making the cut for eliminations.

Winner: Ryan Peery
Runner-up: Bob Malloy
#1 Qualifier: Bob Malloy

Qualifying

Bob Malloy topped the order after two rounds, running a 4.0842 at 188.68 mph to claim the #1 spot. GT Tonglet qualified second (4.1661 at 182.26) and Chris Smith rounded out the top three with a 4.2129 at 184.35. The class was tightly bunched through the top ten, with barely a tenth separating Jordan Peterson in fourth (4.2670) from Benny Stevens in ninth (4.2966). Spencer Aguiar and Tim Kerrigan missed the cut at the bottom of an 18-bike field.

Eliminations

Malloy wasted no time backing up his qualifying effort, opening eliminations with a win over #16 seed Tracy Kile and then taking out Rebel Glover in round two to reach the semifinals, where he then took a win over Jordan Peterson with a 4.094 to head to the final. On the other side of the ladder, Ryan Peery (qualified #6) was quietly putting together the most consistent day in the field. Peery beat Jason Leeper in round one, John Toth in round two, and then ran down Tonglet in the semis with a strong .0669 light and a 4.1697 to punch his ticket to the final.

That set up a battle between the top qualifier and the most consistent bike in the field. Malloy hit the tree with a .0885 light, but Peery was already moving with a sharp .0224 reaction and ran it out to a 4.0912 at the stripe, edging Malloy’s 4.0986 at the line for the win.

It was a strong day for Peery, who climbed from the #6 spot to the winner’s circle by stringing together four straight rounds without a loss, capped by the best ET (4.0912), top speed (186.88 mph), and best reaction time (.0224) of eliminations. Malloy’s day was nearly perfect as he was also in the final of the Top Fuel motorcycle class, but he came up short in both finals.
