Bob Malloy used consistency and experience to
take his Seaford H-D backed Buell to the runner-up spot at the AHDRA Thunder
in the Valley held in Bristol, TN. Malloy came from the number two qualifying
spot, working his way through the field.

“The weather started out fine.” said
the top fuel veteran, Malloy. “But when the weather changed we had to
use all of our experience to put our bike into the number two qualifying spot
running a 6.641 at 191.27 MPH .Despite the MPH robbing heat we felt we had a
good shot at the win on Sunday.”

Malloy opened eliminations running a 7.092 at
155.97 MPH to defeat Larry Stanley’s 7.288 at 185.08 MPH. “Saturday’s
weather was replaced with an incredible increase in humidity. The corrected
altitude was over 5.000 feet so we had to make some major changes.” said
Malloy.
In round two Malloy faced off with Tracy Kile. Malloy stepped-up a bit but had
an easy win in hand when Kile exploded his bike down track. Malloy ran a 6.867
at 185.10 MPH to advance to the semi-finals.

Malloy’s competition in the semis would
be Tii Tharpe. Malloy once again did what he had to do in the oppressive heat
and defeated the game Tharpe. Malloy running a 6.948 at 176.49 MPH while Tharpe
carded a 7.482 at 134.07 MPH. This secured Malloy’s spot in the Top Fuel
finals.
“We’ve had success here in the past and was looking forward to a
trip to the winner’s circle, but a mechanical problem ended our day,”
lamented Malloy. When we left the line I had the lead and was hoping I could
hold Mike (Romine) off but we threw a drive belt and it was all over.”
Malloy coasted to the finish line as he watched Romine streak by for the win.

“This was a very difficult weekend for
us with the heat and all,” said Malloy. “I have to really thank
Bill Bennett, Carl Lovero and Stevie Moore for an incredible effort. Our next
race will be next weekend at the Hannum’s H-D event in my backyard in
Maryland.”
