Pingel Top Fuel Motorcycle, History in the Making

At the 42nd Annual, Mann Hill Garage, World Finals, presented by Kibblewhite Precision Machine, the Pingel Top Fuel Twins class will be racing towards history. There is every reason to believe that this field of Top Fuel motorcycles may card the first ever, all-five-second elapsed time field of Top Fuel bikes.

The following racers and their drag bikes have all run in the five-second elapsed time zone before: Larry McBride, Dave Vantine, Ian King, Chris Hand, Sam Wills, and Sverre Dahl. Now add to this Mitch Brown, driving for Dennis Bradley, with a new combination in the bike and they too are ready to step up and we have the makings of the quickest Top Fuel motorcycle field in the history of the sport. Nowhere in the world has more motorcycle drag racing horsepower ever been so concentrated in one place, at one time.

Larry McBride and his team have run in the fives at every race track they have raced at for years now. He’s in a point’s battle currently with Dave Vantine, who leads Larry coming into the last race of the season, so Larry McBride racing has extra motivation to win this event. They will arrive early and test before the race, leaving nothing to chance. Make no mistake about it, Larry knows the wolves are in town and mean to defeat him. The Spider Man is not taking this lightly and he looks forward to the competition.

Dave Vantine is currently leading in Pingel Top Fuel Man Cup championship points. If he can just stay one step ahead of Larry McBride, he can do what no other Top Fuel racer has done in the history of Man Cup T/F motorcycle drag racing – he has the chance to snatch a #1 plate away from Larry McBride. Larry is undefeated in Man Cup T/F motorcycle championships since 2010, the first year of Manufacturers Cup racing.

Ian King and his Gulf Oil Top Fuel motorcycle are coming to the 42nd Annual, Mann Hill Garage, World Finals, presented by Kibblewhite Precision Machine, to show the world they are a force to be reckoned with. Ian is the 10x world T/F motorcycle champ from the UK and his T/F bike, now owned and raced by Filippos Papafilippou, of Athens Greece, is returning to USA, but with Ian King once again driving the bike. This team just won the EU series championship for T/F motorcycle, across the pond. They run five second passes at will, there is little doubt they will challenge Larry and Dave with every round of racing.

Chris Hand of the “Red Neck Express” fame is a member of the MTC Engineering 5 Second Club, as is Sam Wills, of Oklahoma City. Chris entered the prestigious 5 Second Club in August of 2013 and Sam Wills laid down his first 5, in Man Cup competition, in November of 2015. Both of these racers have over four decades of Top Fuel motorcycle drag racing under their leathers.

From Lorenskog, Norway, all the way across the Atlantic ocean, Sverre Dahl comes to this event after a great showing in his EDRS, European Drag Racing Series, as he finished 3rd this year, but was not able to make all the events. Sverre posted more than one 5 second elapsed time in 2018, his most recent was at Gardermoen, Germany, where he stopped the timing system with a 5.89 at 238 MPH. He has been racing drag bikes since 1984 and made his first pass on a Top Fuel motorcycle in 1991, then clocked his first 6, the same year.

While six of the seven known entries are all proven five second bikes, only the new Dennis Bradley T/F machine, driven by Mitch Brown has yet to cross into the 5’s. But the team knows that can happen at the World Finals. The team did some testing, early in October and they are ready to “Send it.” Sam Wills and Mike Dryden were present at the test session and a stout 4.05 at the 1/8th mile during that test indicates the team is on the right path with the new tune-up. Only the 1320 can reveal if this tune up will lead the team to it’s first five second elapsed time.

The 42nd Annual, Man Cup, Mann Hill Garage, World Finals, will take place at the South Georgia Motorsports Park complex, in Adel, Georgia on November 15-18. Qualifying for the Pingel Top Fuel motorcycles and all the professional classes will begin on Friday, evening. Please visit http://mancup.info/ for details. The official hotel for the event will be the, Holiday Inn, Valdosta Conference Center, Exit 16, Phone, 229-244-1111.
