Miller Runs Quickest 60-Inch Pass

Orient Express 60-Inch Pro Sport Bike rider Jason Miller “Time” motored his NLR Turbo Hayabusa to the quickest run in the category’s history with an astounding 7.66 en route to a runner-up finish at the MIROCK Fast by Gast Superbike Showdown from Maryland International Raceway, August 27th-28th.

After qualifying No. 1 with a 7.78, Miller blasted out the record lap during his bye run in Sunday’s opening round of eliminations.

“I had to take three or four looks at the time slip. I couldn’t believe it,” Miller said. “It was quite a thrill.”

Amazingly enough the 7.66 was not entirely without a hiccup. The machine refused to shift into sixth gear at the top-end of the racetrack, after seemingly blowing the tire off in fifth gear.

“It was so smooth for the first 1,000 feet. We ran a 5.10 at 153 mph in the eighth. It was a perfect run up until fifth and sixth gear, when it spun and wouldn’t shift” Miller said. “There wasn’t a whole lot left but I think we could have gone a .63.”

Miller’s record run didn’t come without a price. He hurt the motor and was only running on three cylinders for the rest of the event.

Miller went on to defeat Steve Knecum and Vincent Demito with elapsed-times of 7.90 and 7.87.

“That’s not to bad when you’re only running on three cylinders,” Miller commented.

In the final Miller’s wounded bullet got the best of him as he was defeated by two-time class champion Mike Slowe, who ran a 7.75 to Miller’s seriously wounded 9.63.

“By the final the motor just quit” Miller said. “You certainly need all four to beat someone like Mike. I joked with him before the run that he was the first in the 7.90s, 80s, and 70s. I’m glad I at least got the 60s. He told me now the race is on to the 50s.”

Unfortunately for Miller he was unable to back the 7.66 up within one percent for the pass to become an official MIROCK record. The MIR hometown racer remains upbeat and believes he can repeat the feat again this season.

“We still have two races left and my motor will be ready to go by Rockingham,” Miller said. “Our goal is to win the remaining two races and take both records this season. We’re coming for Mikey.”

The successful weekend has moved Miller, who missed the tour’s first race, up to the No. 3 spot in the points series, just 25 points behind second-place Vincent Demitto.

Miller credits his success to his new NLR AMS-1000 Boost Controller.

“The AMS-1000 is the trickiest boost controller on the market when compared to the others,” Miller said. “It’s like comparing a typewriter to a state of the art PC. There is no comparison. When we get this AMS-1000 dialed in completely, all other boost controllers will be obsolete.”

Miller went on to thank Sebastion Domingo from NLR , Joe Hahn from Orient Express for their loyal support, and DME Racing for a great chassis. Miller also went on to thank Jobe Spetter Jr. from Turbo People who helped tune the Orient Express/NLR turbo Busa just two days prior to the event in a private test session.

“Turbo People are true professionals. They have all the records for the quickest 10-inch tire Mustangs. They came down from New York and really provided us a lot of help,” Miller said. “We owe a lot of credit to them. These guys are much more than sponsors to my team, they are like family.”

Miller also went on to give special thanks to his bike partner Bryan Baugh and his crew: Janet Virgin, Brandon Dowell, and Miz Branker for their support throughout the years.
