38th annual MTC Engineering Summer Nationals
Virginia Motorsports Park
May 16-18, 2025
Mayhem and Milestones: XDA’s 38th Annual MTC Engineering Summer Nationals Delivers an Unforgettable Weekend
The 38th annual MTC Engineering Summer Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park was a full-throttle festival of speed, grit, and championship-caliber racing as the XDA brought the heat to Dinwiddie, Virginia. From all-motor beasts to boosted street killers, over a dozen classes packed the lanes with some of the fiercest competition the sport has seen yet.
Despite weather throwing a curveball early on, racers came locked, loaded, and hungry—resulting in record-breaking passes, breakout performances, and unforgettable final-round showdowns. With momentum building across every class, championship battles are officially lit, and the road to the 2025 XDA titles just got a whole lot more interesting.
Orient Express Racing Pro Street
Winner – Rodney Williford
Runner-Up – Jason Dunigan
Despite losing a qualifier to rain, the Orient Express Racing Pro Street class brought the thunder to Virginia Motorsports Park for the MTC Summer Nationals. A stacked field of 24 of the baddest turbo and supercharged bikes on the planet came to play, and the ETs did not disappoint.
Rodney Williford came out swinging in qualifying with a jaw-dropping 6.410 at 243.70 mph, locking down the #1 spot. Hot on his heels were DME Racing teammates Mark Rendeluk (6.412) and Jason Dunigan (6.424), with Jamie Lopes (6.529) and Jeremy Teasley (6.578) on liter bikes rounding out the top five.
The final was déjà vu at Virginia Motorsports Park, as Rodney Williford and Jason Dunigan once again lined up for a Pro Street showdown—just like the last time XDA hit VMP. But this time, the drama started before they even reached the lanes. When the call went out for finals, Dunigan’s bike wouldn’t fire during a last-minute systems check by team tuner Andy Sawyer. A wave of panic hit, and the DME Racing crew dove in, ripping off bodywork to track down the issue.
Meanwhile, in a true show of sportsmanship, Williford kept his machine parked at his pit, giving his opponent every opportunity to make the call. Thanks to hustle and teamwork, Dunigan’s bike came to life just in time, setting the stage for a final filled with intensity and mutual respect.
Despite the high-voltage anticipation as these two rivals rolled into the beams, Jason Dunigan jumped just a hair too soon—going red by -.004 and handing the win to Rodney Williford. But Williford didn’t just coast through the beams. He cranked out a scorching 6.38 at 230.96 mph—the quickest run of the event—as a bold reminder to the field: Pro Street still runs through him.
Two races. Two wins. Williford is rolling with momentum, and the rest of the class knows it.
DME Racing Real Street
Winner – David Fondon
Runner-up – Chris Moore
The DME Racing Real Street class delivered again with a stacked field of 23 bikes lighting up the MTC Summer Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park. The competition was fierce, the speeds were blazing, and the points battle is just starting to heat up.
Former champ Spencer Claycomb set the bar early on Friday night with a clean 7.500 pass. But Saturday had other plans—Chris Moore came out swinging and dropped a 7.434 to take the top qualifying spot. Not far behind, David Fondon laid down a 7.442 to claim the second slot. With both racers firing on all cylinders, the stage was set for a clash of titans.
Moore blazed through eliminations, taking out Bud Harrod, Chip Ellis, and Rickey Gadson. On the other side, Fondon was on a mission, knocking out Courtlan Whiting, Marcus Hylton, and his brother Anibal Fondon to set up a final round showdown that had the entire crowd on edge.
The final round didn’t disappoint—anticipation was high and both riders were locked in. Fondon nailed a sharp .033 light, with Moore close behind at .041. But just 60 feet out, smoke began trailing from Moore’s bike. And despite Fondon’s drifting toward the centerline, he stayed composed and powered through to the win with a clean 7.424 at 171 MPH while Moore coasted through with issues.
With this victory, Fondon takes over the points lead—but in Real Street, nothing is set in stone. The battle for the championship is just getting started.
MaxxECU Pro Xtreme
Winner – Brunson Grothus
Runner-up – Brayden Davis
The MaxxECU Pro Xtreme 1/8-mile heads-up class stormed into the second event of the 2025 XDA season with fierce intensity, proving once again that this is the class where horsepower meets heart. With 19 riders battling for 16 spots on the ladder, the competition was as tight as it gets.
Fresh off a win at the season opener, Brunson Grothus qualified strong with a 3.985, but it was Terry Schweigert who stole the spotlight with a blistering 3.968 to take the top qualifying position. However, Schweigert’s charge was cut short in round two by Brayden Davis, who was on a mission of his own.
Davis marched through eliminations, taking down George Whitaker, Terry Schweigert, and Tommy Saxon to land a spot in the final. On the other side of the ladder, Grothus was a picture of consistency, dispatching Adrian Lottie, Paul Gast, and Rob Garcia to secure his second consecutive final-round appearance.
In the final showdown, Davis—qualified ninth with a 4.099—knew he needed a flawless run. He left the line with a sharp .021 reaction time, edging Grothus’s .032. Davis delivered his best ET of the weekend with a 4.023, but Grothus powered through to the stripe with a 3.989, securing the win and stretching his points lead in the MaxxECU Pro Xtreme standings.
MaxxECU Pro Xtreme is presented by Billy Vose Racing, Fast by Gast, Dunigan Racing, DME Racing, Grothus Dragbikes, Harley Haul, Rob Bush Motorsports, Robinson Industries, Schnitz Racing, Timblin Chassis, and Worldwide Bearings, Pro Performance and Mikronite.
HTP Performance Super Stock
Winner – Chip Ellis
Runner-up – Caleb Holt
The action was red-hot in HTP Performance Super Stock, as fresh contenders continue to shake up the leaderboard.
Reigning champion Jeremy Teasley, who opened the season with a win, was stopped short in Round 3 by Caleb Holt—the same rider he defeated in the season-opener final. This time, Holt flipped the script, eliminating Teasley and fighting his way back to another final-round appearance.
On the other side of the ladder, Chip Ellis made a powerful statement aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000. While the class has been traditionally dominated by Kawasakis, Ellis stormed through the field to secure his first final-round appearance of the season. Suzuki fans were excited to see their brand in the spotlight again—the last time a Suzuki claimed the Super Stock win was at the 2024 season finale when Teasley took the victory on a Hayabusa.
Heading into the final, Holt appeared to have the performance edge. But when the bulbs dropped, Ellis delivered a clutch-perfect .059 light—a rare feat in this hand-clutch class—and never looked back. Holt, despite running a quicker 8.944 to Ellis’s 8.965, couldn’t overcome his sluggish start, cutting the slowest light of his day (and possibly the season).
With two final-round appearances under his belt, Holt now takes over the points lead—though Ellis is closing in fast. As the season heats up, Super Stock fans can expect even more shakeups in this intensely competitive class.
Team Skittles ATV Shootout
Winner: Blake Chavis
Runner-up: Joeshuan Alameda
Blake Chavis got sweet redemption at the MTC Summer Nationals, taking home the Team Skittles ATV Shootout victory in dominant fashion.
At the season opener, Chavis looked like the man to beat, grabbing the No. 1 qualifying spot — only to settle for a runner-up finish after falling to Tevon Huntley. But when the gates opened at Virginia Motorsports Park, Chavis was locked in and determined to rewrite the script.
Once again, he topped the qualifying sheets with a blazing 4.673-second eighth-mile pass. And once again, he powered through the field to reach the final round — this time facing off against Joeshuan Alameda of Puerto Rico.
At the tree, both riders were nearly dead even: Chavis with a .146 reaction time, Alameda with a .150. But down the track, Chavis put the hammer down, charging to the stripe with a 4.712 at 144.24 mph, outpacing Alameda’s strong 4.819 at 135.55 mph effort.
With this victory, Blake Chavis takes over the championship points lead and heads to Rockingham in a few weeks with serious momentum.
Chavis came with a mission now it’s time to keep the pressure on.
AGM Boosted Bulls
Winner – Malcolm Phillips / Billy Mays
Runner-Up – Derek Sobiech / Night Stalker
The king is back—and he’s snatching souls in Boosted Bulls.
After a year off, Malcolm Phillips rolled into Virginia Motorsports Park like he never left, piloting the crowd-favorite ‘Billy Mays’ with bad intentions. He already snatched a W at the Season Opener, and at the MTC Summer Nationals, he kept the pressure applied.
He made a statement by taking out the defending champ Frankie Stotz and his always-dangerous ‘Reddi-Wip’. That set the stage for a Saturday night showdown against Derek Sobiech on the brutal ‘Night Stalker’—a man who finished #2 in points last season and ain’t afraid to swing.
When the tree dropped, both riders came out swinging with near-dead-even reaction times. But it was Phillips who kept it planted and powered ‘Billy Mays’ straight down Broadway while Night Stalker reared up, dancing that front wheel in the air. Sobiech stayed in the fight, keeping the throttle pinned like a savage, but the wheelie slowed the charge—and that was all the opening Phillips needed.
Stripe grabbed. Win light lit. Game over.
With back-to-back wins and a hit list full of heavyweights, Malcolm Phillips is making it real clear: Boosted Bulls runs through Billy Mays.
Shore Car Wash Solutions Nitrous Bulls
Winner: Tony Patton / Big Durty
Runner-up: Jaques Gaskins / Arm & Hammer
The Shore Car Wash Solutions Nitrous Bulls brought the smoke to Virginia Motorsports Park—no fluff, no games, just raw street energy. Two names rose above the chaos at the MTC Summer Nationals: Tony Patton and Jaques Gaskins.
Gaskins, riding ‘Arm & Hammer’, caught the first-round BYE and used it to glide straight to the semi-finals. There, he locked in with heavy hitter Jeremy Teasley on ‘AMEX’. Teasley was out front early, but the horsepower faded near the stripe—Gaskins smelled blood and powered around for the win, earning his shot at the big money.
On the other side of the ladder, Patton was all gas, no brakes. In round one, he faced Malcolm Phillips on ‘Jinx.’ Phillips grabbed the early lead, but when ‘Jinx’ ran out of muscle, Patton made his move—blasting past with authority. In the semi-final, Patton squared up with Dave Norris on ‘2 OGS’ and straight-up outran him to punch his ticket to the final.
When it was time to settle it, Patton proved why they call it ‘Big Durty’. He slapped the tree, took that front wheel off the line, and never looked back. Gaskins couldn’t catch him—Patton owned that stripe and the win.
The Nitrous Bulls class once again showed why it’s one of the baddest, grudge-style races on the map—fast bikes, fast talk, and a whole lot of grit.
East Coast Collision Monster Bulls
Winner – Dany Bernier / Bad Bern
Runner-up – Kevin Dennis / Full Coverage
The East Coast Collision Monster Bulls class delivered no shortage of drama at the 2025 XDA MTC Summer Nationals, held May 16-18 at Virginia Motorsports Park. With a field stacked with grudge racing heavyweights, Canadian rider Dany Bernier aboard Bad Bern fought his way to the top of the ladder, ultimately claiming the coveted Monster Bulls title.
Bernier’s path to victory included advancing out of the semifinals on an earned BYE run before facing off against Kevin Dennis and his ‘Full Coverage’ Suzuki in the final round. Dennis had earlier defeated Howard Gerken (Son of Sam) in a hard-fought semifinal matchup to earn his spot in the money round.
Throughout the weekend, the Monster Bulls class saw fierce first-round battles as riders like Michael Daddio, Dylan Wood, Spencer Claycomb, Dell Jones, Crow Teasley, and Henry Wise fought for a shot at glory. By the end of Saturday night, the bracket had narrowed to the best of the best, with Bernier emerging as the winner of the field.
In the final, Bernier remained composed under pressure as he left the tree hot to take a commanding lead and unleashed another blistering pass to lock down the win over Dennis, cementing his points lead in the Championship chase.
With another W added to his résumé, Bernier will look to carry this momentum into the next stop on the XDA tour—where the bulls will be back and hungry for more.
Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls
Winner – Johnathan Wiseman / Da Colonel
Runner-up – Jordan Angelo / Pimp C
Tommie’s Motorsports DMV Bulls is built for the hungry. This class is for the up-and-coming grudge killers ready to prove they belong. Low entry fee, high-stakes energy. DMV roots, open invite—if you’re fast and fearless, step up. The big dogs can run Nitrous and Boosted… this yard’s for the next wave of hitters.
At the MTC Engineering Summer Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, Johnathan Wiseman came through swinging on Da Colonel. He sent Brandon Childress, Desmond Spaulding, and Travis Kidd packin’ on his way to his first final-round appearance.
On the other side of the ladder, Jordan Angelo was makin’ noise on Pimp C, rollin’ through Mike Davis, Cody Lowe, and Brycen Bender like a man with a mission.
The final? Pure heat. Wiseman struck first on the tree, but Angelo was right there—breathing fire down the track. Both bikes were side-by-side to the eighth, but Da Colonel dug deep, muscled ahead, and snatched the stripe like a vet. First win, first statement: Wiseman is no rookie—he’s the real damn deal.
Hems Site Solutions All Motor Bulls
Winner – Jordan Angelo / Da Setup
Runner-up – Grover Watford / Obama
Jordan Angelo rolled into Hems Site Solutions All Motor Bulls for his first appearance of the season like he had something to prove—and left the track like a man on a mission. Piloting his All Motor beast ‘Da Setup,’ Angelo wasted no time making noise, knocking out Jeff Kanagie on ‘Gotti’ and Dennis Beatty on ‘Dahlia’ to earn his shot in the final.
Waiting for him? Grover Watford and his grudge machine ‘Obama.’ Watford already had a score to settle after coming up short in the season opener against LA Payne. This was redemption time.
The final round was pure street—tense, raw, and ruthless. It started with a classic burnout standoff at the tree. Angelo rolled in first, but when the bulbs dropped, Watford pushed too hard and jumped red. Just like that, the win landed in Angelo’s lap.
Angelo walked away with the W this time, but don’t sleep—Watford’s still holding the top spot in the points chase. The war’s far from over.
1 Stop Speed 4.60 Index
Winner – Ronald Procopio
Runner-up – Michael Thyen
The action in 1 Stop Speed 4.60 Index was as fierce as ever at the MTC Summer Nationals, with six riders dipping into the 4.60 zone during qualifying. Harvey Hubbard led the pack with a razor-sharp 4.602 pass, earning the #1 spot. But Hubbard’s hopes were dashed in round two when Shawn Rainey took him out in a tight match-up.
Rainey carried that momentum all the way to the semifinals, where he staged against the defending champion, Ronald Procopio. Rainey came out swinging with a blazing .002 reaction time, but Procopio answered with a .008 light and powered to the stripe first, securing his second consecutive final-round appearance of the season.
On the opposite side of the ladder, Michael Thyen made an impressive season debut at the MTC Summer Nationals. Thyen fought through a stacked field, defeating Robbie Hunnicutt, Gary Clontz, Lowry Callahan, and recent event winner Mike Ostrowski in the semifinals to punch his ticket to the final.
The stage was set for a showdown, but the high-stakes pressure bit Thyen at the line as he lit the red bulb with a -.012 reaction, handing the victory—and valuable championship points—over to the ever-consistent Ronald Procopio.
Capital Brand Group 5.60 Index
Winner – Brayden Davis
Runner-up – Shayne Proctor
At Virginia Motorsports Park, the Capital Brand Group 5.60 action was nothing short of ruthless competition. Three riders smashed the index in qualifying, but it was Rico Brown who threw down the gauntlet with a perfect 5.600 to claim the #1 qualifying spot. But perfection in qualifying doesn’t guarantee survival on race day—Brown was knocked out in round one by Harvey Hubbard in a wild double breakout battle.
From there, the spotlight shifted to two fearless warriors—Brayden Davis and Shayne Proctor. These two were locked in and lethal all weekend, sniping the tree and owning the index with sniper precision. Round after round, they left a trail of defeated opponents until destiny pitted them against each other in the final.
Davis, riding solo in the semifinals, ripped a jaw-dropping .000 reaction time—a perfect hit that’s as deadly as it is dangerous. One blink late, and you’re toast. One blink early, and you’re red. But in the final, Davis proved he had ice in his veins, launching with a savage .006 light that gave him the edge at the stripe.
Proctor wasn’t backing down, and both riders sent it to the finish with breakout passes in a no-lift drag to the line. Davis took the win with a 5.596 to Proctor’s deeper 5.577—both breaking out, both hungry, but only one walking away with the win.
Brayden Davis: deadly on the tree, dominant on the track, and now crowned king of Capital Brand Group 5.60.
Breezewood Farms Top Sportsman
Winner – Robert Hunnicutt
Runner-up – Mac McAdams
The Breezewood Farms Top Sportsman class delivered intense, edge-of-your-seat action at Virginia Motorsports Park, where racers went head-to-head in a thrilling display of speed and precision.
Jimmy Shifflett set the tone early, grabbing the number one qualifying spot with a stout 7.319-second pass. He took out Boo Brown in round one but suffered issues in round two, falling to Rick Buntig.
The spotlight soon shifted to two standout contenders—Robert Hunnicutt and Mac McAdams—who clawed their way through a fiercely competitive field to meet in the final.
Hunnicutt powered past Kenny Webster, Logan Mathias, Dustin Lee, and Joe Procopio to earn his lane. McAdams wasn’t far behind, clocking wins over Tom Galligan, Shawn Rainey, Mark Schwalm, and Cory Stuebner to secure his place.
The final round was a showdown between two warriors, both dialing in at 7.69 seconds. Hunnicutt gained the edge at the tree with a .035 reaction time to McAdams’ .082. As they rocketed down the strip, neither gave an inch—but Hunnicutt’s jump at the start proved crucial. He crossed the stripe just three feet ahead, taking the win with a 7.360 to McAdams’ 7.702.
MPS Racing Pro ET
Winner – Dustin Lee
Runner-up – Mac McAdams
A massive field of 118 riders stormed Virginia Motorsports Park for a high-stakes showdown in the MPS Racing Pro ET class at the MTC Engineering Summer Nationals. With seven demanding rounds standing between them and glory, Dustin Lee and Mac McAdams each blazed a path through their respective sides of the ladder to meet in a dramatic final round as the sun dipped below the horizon on Sunday evening.
In the final duel, McAdams dialed a 7.70 while Lee locked in an 8.66, putting Lee on the tree first. The reigning 2023 class champion showed why he’s still the man to beat, launching with a sharp .033 reaction time. McAdams answered with a solid .068 RT, but the chase was on.
Despite McAdams’ best effort to run Lee down, the champ never lifted, staying locked in and outrunning the dial to take the win at the stripe—securing not just the victory, but the points lead heading into the second half of the season.
Dustin Lee’s Pro ET mastery continues to set the standard, and if this weekend is any indication, the road to the 2025 title runs straight through him.
Brock’s Performance Street ET
Winner – Shayne Proctor
Runner-up – Clay Davies
The Brock’s Performance Street ET class continues to deliver edge-of-your-seat action, and at the MTC Engineering Summer Nationals, Shayne Proctor sealed his redemption story.
After settling for a runner-up finish at the Season Opener, Proctor returned to Virginia Motorsports Park with one goal—win it all. He did just that, storming through six grueling rounds to secure a spot in the final against Clay Davies.
With a dial-in of 9.10, Proctor chased down Davies, who left first on a 9.42 dial and cut a solid .023 light. But Proctor was surgical on the tree, firing off an ice-cold .011 reaction time that gave him the edge.
Charging hard down the track, Proctor reeled Davies in and took the win light—locking up the event win and claiming the Street ET points lead in the process.
Proctor’s back on top—and with momentum like this, the rest of the class better stay sharp.
VooDoo Motorcycle Components Bracket Bash
Winner – Carl Lacy Jr.
Runner-up – Chris Sulowski
The VooDoo Components Bike Bash delivered an electrifying weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park, where 88 racers hit the track ready to battle. With six rounds standing between them and a final-round showdown, every pass counted, and the action didn’t disappoint.
Two standout competitors—Carly Lacy Jr. and Chris Sulkowski—rose above the rest, navigating a stacked field with precision. Both racers were dialed in all day, cutting razor-sharp lights and sticking to their numbers round after round.
In the final, Lacy dialed an 8.50, giving him the head start on the tree, while Sulkowski locked in at 7.98. When the bulbs dropped, Lacy left clean with a .045 reaction, charging toward the finish line. But Sulkowski was a tick too aggressive on the tree, leaving with a -.056 red light, handing the win—and the spotlight—to Lacy.
It was a hard-earned victory and a standout performance that capped off a weekend full of tight racing and top-tier talent.
Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s Race
Winner – Brian Canoles
Runner-up – Rob Hunnicutt
They say Friday nights are for the brave—and at the Hard Times Parts & Service Gambler’s Race, two fearless racers put it all on the line under the lights at Virginia Motorsports Park.
Brian Canoles and Rob Hunnicutt rolled through five ruthless rounds to reach the final showdown. With no championship points on the line, this was pure bragging rights and cash—winner takes all.
Canoles dialed an 8.96 and left the line first with a sharp .030 reaction time. But Hunnicutt was hunting him down, unloading a jaw-dropping .004 RT and charging hard on a 7.73 dial.
It was a full-throttle game of cat and mouse all the way to the stripe—but Hunnicutt ran just a bit too quick, posting a 7.86 and breaking out. That handed the win to Canoles, who ran a near-perfect 8.989, cashing in and walking away with the Gambler’s glory.
Friday night at the XDA? All gas. No mercy.
