MTC Engineering Measuring Stall Spring Height

MTC Engineering continues to help racers and builders get the most out of their performance products with the latest installment of its Tech Tip series: Measuring the Height of the Stall Springs.

Precision is critical when adjusting stall springs on high-performance clutches, and proper measurement ensures consistent, repeatable performance on the track. MTC Engineering highlights two proven methods for accurately setting stall spring height — using the Blue Nut Gauge or the conventional measurement method — to ensure even pressure across the clutch assembly.

Key setup tips from MTC Engineering include:

  • Standard shipping height of nut is .800”
  • Ensure all nuts are set to the same height to maintain even pressure on the pressure plate
  • Use the same weight on all arms
  • Avoid creating a “wire lock” situation by lowering the nut too far
  • After adjusting, always verify the lock nut is secure

Tools such as the Blue Nut Gauge, Air Gap Gauge, and Slider Shims are available from MTC Engineering to simplify the process and help racers achieve optimal clutch performance.
