Indy twice as special for the Matco Tools
There are two things
that nearly every racer on the NHRA POWERade tour wants to
accomplish during their professional racing career, win a
NHRA POWERade World Championship, and win Indy. And for the
Pro Stock Bike riders, there is a third, a win in the K&N
Filters Pro Bike Klash.
This weekend at
the 49th annual U.S. Nationals, two of these coveted
be up for grabs, the 2003 K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash,
and the 2003 Indy Pro Stock Bike title.
Last season, Matco
Tools rider Craig Treble checked off a Klash championship
on his "Things To Do" list, but make no mistake,
Treble is not content with just the single win, he wants both
Indy titles this weekend. "Indy is the oldest, richest
and most prestigious event on our schedule, and I want to
win it. Add in the opportunity that K&N Filters has given
us with the Pro Bike Klash and it is absolutely the weekend
to score big in Pro Stock Bike. If someone can win both the
K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash and U.S. Nationals, they will
earn an additional $10,000 double-up bonus from NHRA, and
that sounds really good to me." Said Craig.
The Matco Tools
rider will face Reggie Showers in round one of the Klash.
A tough draw as these two have each held the No. 1 qualifying
position at the last two events on the NHRA POWERade tour.
With all of the money and prestige for the champion up for
grabs, there is just a little more at stake when these two
race in competition. "We bet a dollar every time we race"
claimed Treble. "Me and Reggie have a standing bet for
every race we have against each other, so as far as each one
of us in concerned, we want that dollar as much as anything."
Treble was again
set to Debut his new Kosman chassis, Vance & Hines powered
Matco Tools Suzuki, but great results lately from the current
bike will keep the new motorcycle on the sidelines for yet
another race or two. As the defending Klash Champion, the
smart money is to stick with what will work best for this
high profile and high paying weekend. "We tested in Indianapolis
last week and our current bike worked so well that changing
to our new bike at this point doesnt make sense. I am
very excited about the events at Indy this weekend. We just
need to keep our mistakes to a minimum and make some good,
clean runs. Like I said earlier, I want Indy."
