CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals
Pacific Raceways – Aug 03-05, 2018

Tii Tharpe takes the win a the CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals totaling six career wins and three runner-ups. In the final round Tharpe has a marginally better reaction time than Mike Scott, and while it’s a good side-by-side race, Tharpe steadily pulled ahead,  while Scott started to fight the bike around the 33o’ mark. Tharpe took the stripe first with a 6.318 over Scott’s 6.453.

Tii Tharpe, who was on the verge of having to concede the 2018 championship to Doug Vancil, took advantage of Vancil’s first-round exit by defeating Mike Scott to vault back into title contention with just one race, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, left on the schedule. See Top Fuel Harley one last time in Indianapolis on August 30-Sept 2 and watch Vancil, Tharpe and Turner battle for the 2018 championship.

Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 29.76 inches, adjusted altitude 1,783 feet, track temperature 103 degrees. Boyer was the winner here last year. His engine sounded terrible at the green and he stops on the track right off the line. The crew goes out and pushes the bike back behind the line. Scott has problems in the burnout and is pushed back too. Not a great start!

RightBeau Layne0.0761.1313.5456.28384.228.97811.5284.95
Layne gets away first and then has the bike go silent right after that. Andras gets on down the track and puts a number up to tune to later. Randal Andras' incremental times: 60ft-1.121 sec., 330ft-2.904, 660ft-4.222/183.52 mph, 1,000ft-5.384.

Vancil was on a good pass, but the bike started a steady move towards the center line and he has to lift. Tii Tharpe's incremental times: 60ft-1.103 sec., 330ft-2.809, 660ft-4.122/186.72 mph, 1,000ft-5.267. 3:30 p.m. No bump, as Boyer and Scott couldn't post a time.

Tharpe was on an even better pass until near the 1000 foot lights, where he has to start using a lot of body english to keep the bike in the groove.
