In 2003 MTC Established the Top Fuel 5 Second club. Larry McBride was the first to be inducted when he ran a 5.890 at Atlanta Dragway in 2003, seven years after Elmer ran a 6.06 and inspired the formation of the club. The current elite are as follows:
In 2013 Peter Svensson and his team came to the Manufactures Cup and threw down a 5 second pass on U.S. soil to be the 7th racer to make it into the club. Now across the pond, Ian King had already ran a 5 second pass, but since it wasn’t made in the U.S., it wasn’t recognized for the club. Over the winter Ian made arrangements and history was made once again this month at the Manufactures Cup Season Opener.
In the final round of competition on Sunday, Chris Hand and Ian King faced off. Hand had the advantage off the tree but it was King who was able to blister down the track at 5.87 for the win. The crowd went wild and Ian King accomplished what he set out to do. Congratulations to Ian King and his entire team! Joining the MTC 5 second club is truly a huge feat for anyone in Top Fuel.
