One year after making his Pro debut Team Extreme’s Chris Moore of Greer, SC, recorded his first Schnitz Racing Outlaw Pro Street victory from a tremendously hot and humid weekend at the MIROCK Fast by Gast Summer Superbike Showdown from Maryland International Raceway, July 10th-11th.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Moore said in the winner’s circle. “This something I’ve wanted since I began racing MIROCK. We worked really hard this weekend. The heat made things very challenging.”
Moore qualified second and ran consistently in the 7.40-zone on race day to advance to the final to take on number-one qualifier Corey Myers, who is powered by Team Extreme’s rival L&W Motorworks. In the final Moore used a .056 light and a 7.44 to better Myers .072 and 7.48.
“I knew I was going to cut a light on him,” Moore said. “I felt confident that we had the horsepower to get by.”
Moore says defeating his crew chief and engine builder Matt Smith’s rival team made the win all the more gratifying.
“It felt great to come out over L&W,” Moore said. “It took a lot of tuning on Matt’s part to get us down this racetrack. It was very tricky. When we come to these events we expect the Team Extreme guys to be in the top one and two. Matt has taught me a ton about riding and tuning these bikes.”
After suffering a first round loss Smith put all of his energy into tuning and was very pleased with the final outcome.
“Chris did a great job all weekend,” Smith said. “This makes the season record 2 wins for Team Extreme and 1 for L&W. We plan to keep this up.”
“I don’t think L&W will be able to run with us for the rest of the season,” Moore said. “We feel like Team Extreme is getting stronger and stronger each race.”
Next up for Moore and Team Extreme will be the MIROCK Schnitz Racing Summer Sizzler from Rockingham Dragway, July 24th-25th.
“We’re looking for another victory,” Moore said. “We’ve been in the teens at the Rock before.”
Moore went on to thank all of his sponsors for the support: Cycle Specialties, Matt Smith and Team Extreme, KBC Helmets, VP Race Fuels, Maximum Velocity Motorsports, Catalyst Racing Composites, Richies Tires, and Orient Express.
