I’m so sorry for taking so long to get this next article done but as with any massive project like this, “I love it when a plan comes together” as Hannibal would say from the A-Team. But my plans have not been coming together very well, if it isn’t one thing it’s another so they say but enough whining. Let’s talk about Brakes for the “Flying Tiger”
Philippe P.T. Danh is the American rep for Beringer Brakes and when we told him what we needed to do and what we had plans to do, he jumped on the band wagon in a heart beat and we’re glad he did. Beringer Brakes had been my #1 choice for brakes if I could only afford them and you know me, I will spare no expense on the safety gear.
As you can see, Philippe is no stranger to Land Speed racing as he sits under the Bonneville Salt Flats sign.
Beringer Brakes Super Moto Master Cylinders are true works of art carved out of billet aluminum that feature Beringer patented Aerotec piston actuation system with a sealed ball bearing that allows the piston to travel in a perpendicular fashion in its bore with nearly zero side loads and seal compression or extension. The end result is a superbly smooth and easy actuation that allow more brake line pressure (braking power) with less effort on the lever and less rider hand fatigue. Two designs are available: with remote brake fluid reservoir for bike with angled clip-on bars or SuperMoto racers who prefer the ease of brake fluid level check and fill up; or with built-in billet brake fluid reservoir which is prefered by most supermoto racers as there is no risk of brake fluid feed hose disconnection in a crash, nor terminal damage to the reservoir and loss of fluid. Naked sportbikes can use the Beringer master cylinders with built-in reservoir for a clean high-tech look.
Beringer master cylinders can be ordered with your choice of lever length and shape, a brake light or clutch safety switch and a standard or mirror-ready mounting clamp. BRO10 master cylinder have a 14.5mm bore and should be used with single 4 piston calipers and will offer a soft pull BR12 ands BRO12 master cylinders have a 17.5mm bore and should be used with single 6 piston calipers and will offer a soft pull. When used with a 4 piston caliper, it will offer a firm lever pull, but not as hard as other brands. BR14 and BRO14 master cylinders have a 20.5mm bore and are to be used with dual 4 or 6 piston calipers on most sportbikes and hyper bikes. Matching hydraulic clutch master cylinders are available with the same technical features: CRO9 is for most supermoto bikes with hydraulic clutch.

WHY IS THE BERINGER BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SUPERIOR?
When you pull the Lever in, a roller bearing ‘rolls’ evenly actuating directly on to the 20.5mm brake piston, this gives a smoother, more direct and consistent feel through the lever. A roller Bearing that rolls not a rod that changes the leverage angle and feel of hard, soft, hard through an ‘arc’ of movement. With the Beringer Brake Master Cylinder you get better braking power, more feel, increased comfort and more control.
Beringer Brake Rotors feature a billet aluminum hub with directional design spokes and must be ordered as Right or Left rotation rotor. Super Moto and some road bikes hubs are flat. Some road bikes feature offset or dished hubs which are more costly due to the extra material and machining time involved in their manufacture. The tips of the hub spokes are stagger cut to free up the floaters and allow the rotors to float even under brake load. BRAKE & CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDERS
It all starts with the Beringer Brake Master Cylinder. The Beringer Master Cylinder is the first step to smoother, more progressive and more powerful braking, more control and improved confidence under Brakes.
Technically superior in design and manufacture, the Beringer Master Cylinder is made from solid aerospace Industry alloy the Master Cylinder is CNC Machined as one piece.
With the Beringer Radial Master Cylinder, the Lever actuates a Roller Bearing directly onto the Piston for more power and more feel. So direct, it is possible to ‘FEEL’ what the tire is doing at the Lever.
Beringer provided us with a beautiful 4 piston rear caliper
and a one-off 270mm rear rotor. My nephew Jeff Dec made a most worthy brake hanger and he even engraved “Tiger Racing” into it. Now how trick is that? Of course being a magician at 3D CAD programming and having a 5 axis CNC at his disposal was even better.

We went from a stock rear Busa wheel at 17″ and 6 inches wide to a 18″ rim at 8″ wide. That way we can get the ultra wide Continental Conti Attack 240 wide tire on her.

Here’s how the process works. As soon as they receive your wheel, they will inspect it and then call you to confirm the sizing and to make arrangements for a 50% deposit over the phone.
Next, your wheel is taken into their machine shop to remove the original flanges. New flanges are machined from aluminum wheel blanks and mated to the stock wheel center. The new flanges are then TIG welded by hand, inside and out, by our master welder, Sandy Kosman. His welds look just phenonemal to say the least.
When reinstalling the wheel hub, I recommend you purchase a set of these bad boys from Schnitz racing. Your stock dampeners are probably shot and need replaced anyways. It’s a bit of a tight fit when re-assembling but nothing a little wheel grease can’t hurt.
These special racing cush drive dampers provide improved performance, better reaction time at the drag strip, and 4 times the durability of the stock OEM rubber. This rubber compound will hold its shape over time and resist the abuse of modern day motorcycles.
